Re: Prop change
I beg to differ. I went with Gerry Douglas's solution, bought his recommended prop( 14/9 for the discounted price of $300 and some odd dollars) and while it may have worked for you, it most definitely did not work for me. When I pulled off Catalina's recommended prop the tips had a pinkish shade to ...

Re: Added Solar Panels
Finally got around to installing solar. After 13 years of fighting with the batteries. Can one fail an IQ test? Again, overkill? Most likely. Just installed 2-245 Kyocera with a 45amp MPPT controler. The additional fitting and rail to stiffen and support the panels on top of the bimini frame cost as...

Re: LED anchor light
FWIW I replaced my bulb with the appropriate style LED bulb, 3 times. Each time the bulb worked fine for a while and then got dimmer and dimmer and dimmer until it looked like I was using a $1 glow stick. I finally just bought a LED mast light assembly and replaced the original light. Haven't had a ...

Re: Prop change
The boats were originally set up with a 15/9 prop. Due to the beam of the boat and the weight of the boat this prop posed a cavitation issue when motoring into a strong chopped. In many cases it was a sever cavitation issue. Catalina then decided that the fix was a 14/10 prop (never understood how t...

Re: Lightning Strike
Evidently had a near strike which took out the wind guage display, auto pilot, cockpit LEDs, tank monitor, red & green running lights and the mast wind direction is reading 25 degrees off. Happened probably in August in Florida and I am still trying to get things fixed. The phrase "blinding...

Re: Flexofold Prop
I woud say that the 15/10 maybe a tad over proped. WOT I will max the rpms at 2900 instead of 3000. I feel it is the right prop for me due to the fact I am able to pick up additional speed at the lower rpms. Yes I can hit 7.5 knts + or- at WOT but the engine temp will start to rise. I do about 7mph ...

Re: Prop Cavitation
Barry Sorry just notice you have hull 35 so you would have the Universal engine. Yes I can till get the speed up to 7+ knots WOT, but after a short period on time the the engine temp will start to rise, I like to run in the 170 to 175 degree range. The 15-10 is most likely a tad over propped but I f...

Re: Prop Cavitation
I meant mph. Pretty sad. When I pulled the boat last year there where cavitation burn marks on the blade tips. Knowing I had a 1200 mile trip to Florida come up set me into a panic to identify and correct the problem. Catalina had taken a shot at it and missed, now I figured it was up to me. Much re...

Re: Winterizing
FWIW I use a small 12v air compressor to blow the water lines and the HW heater clear prior to running the antifreeze thru. I use the cold water manifold as the air injection point. Can typically winterize with about 5 gallons of anti freeze. Don't forget to throw some in the bilge pump and shower b...

Re: Prop Cavitation
I love the prop. I have the Universal engine so 2900 is not our cruising rpm, ours is in the 2000-2400 range. Before the switch it was a struggle to hit 6-6.25 mph at 2400 rpms. With the new prop I do 7mph at 2200rpm no problem. It did every thing I hoped it would. According to the manufacturer ther...

The instructions that came with my boat said to place trans in reverse to prevent freewheeling.

It should be polyester epoxy it the anchor locker. The bulk of the boat I believe is polyester with the finish layer being vinylester epoxy below the water line

Don't know the model number off hand but I used the damper plate which has the two sets of different sized springs.

Bob
Missed a couple of facts, sorry. Yes, I have the Universal 35B with a 1.88 trans. Also at the 2900rpms, WOT, I was seeing 7.5knts but could see the engine temp starting to creep up toward the 180 mark.

Re: Prop Cavitation
Bob I most likely did not have to extend the shaft but I had to cut it out any way to replace the cutlass bearing without dropping the rudder. The design if the prop should put the blades far enough behind the deadwood to stop the cavitation. With the 15-10 my max RPM are now 2900 underload and 3000...

At hull # 150 you are probably some where around the 10 year mark. Don't know what your engine hours are like but don't forget to make sure your cutlass bearing is OK.

Re: Kiwi Prop
As far a the broken fuel filter bracket, that was a casting issue in the earlier models, I think most of them broke. Once replaced there shouldn't be a problem. The shaking at idle is a bit odd. Any misalignment, be it engine or prop , should be much worse at higher RPM's. The one thing that should ...

Re: threading new radio cable to pedestal
You can't use the same deck/plate penetration as the rest of the wires. It took two of us but we dropped a tag line from the top of the helm and were able to use a penetration very near the one everything else seems to go thur. Push comes to shove you could even use the penetration which the steerin...

Re: Kiwi Prop
The first thing you need to do is get the pitch adjusted down and then see where you stand. A guy I know was over proped with first a Gorie and then a Flexofold and with both he got substantial vibration as he throttled up and he wasn't as over proped as you appear the be if WOT is 2000rpms. What si...
