Veneer fix required. Is it cherry veneer?

Post by Swanman »

Veneer fix required at the bottom of bulkhead in front of aft cabin and under the chart table. Is it cherry veneer? Does anyone know what thickness it is and its accurate description. Even better does anyone know where I can buy it? I am looking a for a strips about 4 inches high.

If anyone has done similar before I would welcome tips.

Thanks

Fraser, the veneer is teak. I assume you are concerned about the discoloration? I had some nasty stains on the big saloon table and managed to sand through the veneer in short order. I’d guess it's only a couple of mm thick. Replacing the veneer with new and getting an acceptable color match would be nearly impossible. Perhaps someone skilled in furniture refinishing could bleach the dark sections back to a color approximating the rest of the teak.

Teak interesting.

Yes good idea. Unfortunately the about an inch or more of the veneer has lifted from the wall. I think there has been some water in there at some point. Maybe I can cut a section out, prep the surface and then use the same veneer and stick it down again having sanded it a little to get the colour back. Or just stick it back down and resand might be good enough to keep the job simple.
