Re: Transmission Fluid Level - 16oz, or 18.56oz ?
Hey Brett, Here's something I think I'm going to try... On Amazon, for about $6, I can purchase a clear, rigid, plastic pipe about 6" long with a 0.2" ID and a 0.23 OD. Near the top of the tube, I'm going to glue on a washer. This washer will act like the dipstick top bolt where you just l...

Transmission Fluid Level - 16oz, or 18.56oz ?
Hi Gang, Like most of you, my transmission is a Hurth ZF-15MA, HBW 150A. The amount of ATF (Dextron II or III) is in question. I've seen it listed as 16oz (1/2 quart) and 0.58 quart (18.56oz) in various documents. Which is correct? I changed the fluid this past week by pumping out the ATF from the d...

Re: Mainsheet Cam Cleat Replaced By Rope Clutch
Hi John, When asked why Catalina went with the racing cam cleat for the main sheet, Jerry Douglas echoed your thoughts exactly. However, I've had too many cases where the main sheet has popped out of that cleat compared to having to dump wind from the sail quickly. The nice thing about this "up...

Hi "cuthbert",
I live in Atlanta and my boat is in Charleston, SC...about 5.5 hours away.
I plan to check on the boat in the next couple of weeks.
I'll take a couple of pics for you and post them.

Racor 500 Series Vacuum Gauge Swivel Fitting
Hi Guys, I have a Racor vacuum gauge (p/n RK19671) that I would like to install on my Racor 500 series fuel/water separator. When mounted, the gauge extends too high for the engine cover to fit correctly. What I'm looking for is an elbow swivel, or a rotating fitting, to mount the gauge on the 500 t...

Mainsheet Cam Cleat Replaced By Rope Clutch
Hi All, In the latest issue of Catalina Mainsheet, there is an article, starting on page 28, where a Catalina C400 captain replaced his mainsheet cam cleat with a rope clutch by using an adapter plate from Garhauer. I did the same "upgrade" this week. Very easy. The adapter plate was not l...

Re: Looking for advice on C350 purchase...
Kenny,
If the price is right, you might want to engage a local surveyor with a moisture meter.
If they are cosmetic and "dry", you might be able to negotiate a better price.
As an FYI, I have a 2004 350 and have some minor cracks, but not like those.

Re: Battery Test Switch
Hi Matt,
Mine does the same thing.
However, if I wiggle the switch a little, it does read.
Mine is definitely with the switch which I have never replaced.
Where did you find a replacement switch?
Thanks,
Bill

Filler Cap O-rings
Hi Guys,
Does anyone have p/n's and a source for the o-rings that go on the waste (pump out), diesel and water deck filler caps?
Thanks,

Re: Engine Access Door
Hi Barbara,
I'm not sure what enlarging that access door will buy you that you can't reach with the aft cabin engine panel off.
I use that door to open/close the engine raw water through hull, quick check for leaks, etc. and that's about it.

Cutlass Bearing
Hi All, I received a text from the guy who cleans my bottom (the boat's, not mine), that the cutlass bearing is protruding about 1/2". Naturally, dollars appeared dancing in my head, not sugar plums... I searched the forum and I saw mentioned that that is normal for out boats. BTW, I did not no...

Hi Scott & Linda, Yes, we live in the ATL area and our C350 is ~5.5 hours away in Charleston, SC. We purchased our boat about 5 years ago in CHS. We keep her at The City Marina which was acquired by Safe Harbor about 2 years ago. We love the marina as it has full amenities, walking distance to s...

Hi Olivia,
Thanks for the reply!
I find it to be an interesting topic. I wish I could find a "white paper" from an boating industry expert on best practices.
I've been in a few storms, but not like you described above...that's a nasty looking storm!
