A simple way to avoid bloody shins

After my wife and I have suffered many scraped shins from the companionway door edge, I finally came out with a solution. Take a piece of 3/4" ID clear plastic hose, and cut along one side. Take off the stainless strip from the lower edge of the companionway, and match it up to one edge of the cut hose. Mark and drill holes in the tubing so that one edge of the tubing will flatten out under the metal strip and be held down by it. The rest of the tubing curls under to form a 1" bumper on the inside of the companionway. Now my shin hits the tubing when I come out in a hurry, and no more bloody shins!
