Shaeffer Furler Problem

Hello
I just purchased a 2003 C-350 near Annapolis, MD. Had Atlantic Spars and Rigging inspect the rigging for insurance purposes. They found the top cap of the headsail furler was off and top bearing missing. They said the sail was too long along the luff and needed to be shortend. Has anybody else had this problem? I am not familiar with the Shaeffer furler. Is this something I can fix easily, or do I need to hire AS&R to come fix it? Do I need to get the sail shortened, or is there some other way to rig it? They said I should fix this sooner than later, but I don't want to miss out on sailing!
Thanks
