Barrier coating a new hull

We will be getting our new 350 delivered in April. I was wondering how many people had barrier coats painted on their new boats? Most of the dealers at the boat shows were saying that the new boats don't require barrier coats. Especially since the boats have 5 year hull warranties and also that here on Lake Huron, the boat is only in the water for half a year.

Should I consider putting Interlux 2000 on before my VC17 or not worry about it?

My boat stays in fresh water only (but 12 months of the year). When the dealer commissioned the boat, he put 5 coats of Interlux 2000 on before applying bottom paint. In cooler water for only part of the year it may not be necessary but it's something to consider.

Congratulations on the new boat. You wil love it. The Catalina Owners manual for 350's says on p. 15, that "Catalina models are manufactured with an integrally molded blister protection system in the hull laminate."

They go on to say that the bottom should be painted with anti-fouling paint if the boat is to be moored or used in fresh or salt water for any length of time.

Just to give an update. We washed and sanded down the hull, and then prepped with Interlux 202. I bought 4 cans of Interlux 2000E Epoxy. 2 cans in white and 2 cans in gray. We started with the gray. Luckily 1 can does the complete hull. We interchanged colours every coat. This made it very easy to tell if we had good coverage. ie if the coat was too thin we would be able to see the previous coat. It was a pretty simple and straight forward job. Now we just need to sand with 80 grit and put our VC 17 on. This probably saved us around 4 boat units

So after we hauled the boat out of the water a couple of weeks ago, the marina staff pressure washes all of the boats. It looks like our epoxy and anti fouling job worked out pretty well. The epoxy held and did not come off in sheets ( I have read that this could happen when not applied correctly) and the anti fouling worked very well with very little growth over the season.
