Hi, seems there are a lot of posts around these two conditions. They don’t seem to match my situation, so I wanted to throw this out to the forum.
We are under way, currently in port, in Leland Mi. After crossing from Sheboygan WI. which is about 9 hours in which all systems ran well and the temperature gauge showed around 160. I shut off the engine and the alarm buzzer did not go off as it normally does until I take out the key. It was silent. And there was a clicking sound just above the heat exchanger.
The engine started right back up and all systems seemed good, I got the clicking sound to stop by turning off the battery to the engine.
Upon returning from dinner and turning on the battery the clicking sound is gone and all system are functioning properly.

Anyone else experience this?

Re: Clicking sound and no alarm buzzer
The first thing that comes to mind regarding clicking sounds in the engine compartment is the fuel lift pump. With the key off, the pump shouldn't run. The oil pressure sender is on the port side of the engine and will shut off power to the fuel pump if no oil pressure is sensed. Check the wire on the sender for loose connection, etc.

Thanks Ken, I noticed there is a black block above the heat changer with a lot of wires going into it.
I looked at the engine manual and it did not identify what it is. Also the low oil pressure went on faintly when I turned off the key. But now everything works fine.

Steve,
Cleaning and tightening the electrical connections at both engine and binnacle end would be good preventive maintenance at this point.
I like CAIG DeoxIT products for electrical/electronic connections.

Cleaned the connections on the black block, which seems to be a common grounding block and used dielectric grease. Make sure you have extra nuts on hand 8/32 and 10/24 as they seem to just jump into the bilge.
So far the issue seems to have gone away. Knock on wood.
