Mooring cleats stock backing plate

Post by Kornhagr »

I searched the forum and did not find any information on whether anyone found it necessary or recommended the installation of an oversized backing plate to secure their mooring cleats (on either side of the bow)?
Maybe the stock backing plate is good enough. I am not even sure how I can gain access to the fasteners to inspect them. The frequency, duration, and severity of storms in the Northeast have me very paranoid.
Thanks for reading and thinking about this post.

I’m going to the Catalina rendezvous on Block Island. I’m going to raise this question and see what I can dig up. Then post what I learn.

This is the first I’ve heard of the Catalina rendezvous. When is it and where can I get more info?

Thanks,
