My boat stays in fresh water only (but 12 months of the year). When the dealer commissioned the boat, he put 5 coats of Interlux 2000 on before applying bottom paint. In cooler water for only part of the year it may not be necessary but it's something to consider.

Backlighting the electrical panel

I would like to try and backlight the electrical panel like my C34 (and many other Catalinas. I'd like to use LED lights but avoid the high price of marine branded ones.
Has anyone done this project? What did you use? How well does it work?
Thanks.

Nelson, That was one of the first projects that I did after taking delivery of my boat last year. While the boat was still out of the water, I put in 2 dedicated thru hulls - 1 for the washdown pump and the other for air conditioning. You definitely don't want to use the sink drain. It will only suc...

I spoke with Frank Butler and Jerry Douglas 2 weeks ago about this same problem. They told me that it is an inconsistent problem. Some people's seem to be fine and others are having problems. I put an hour meter on my compressor and found that it ran 70% of the time in the summer (Atlanta, GA) and 3...

Sam,
Thanks very much for the reply. Roughly how far up from the bottom edge of the muffler did you drill?
I think a safety wire is a great idea.

Leakage from around battery caps

It seems that every time I check my batteries, there are varying amounts of electrolyte that have leaked from the caps. I don't think I have overfilled the cells.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Aqua Lift muffler kit from Catalina

Included with my antisiphon kit from Catalina was a thumb screw and washer/gasket to install on the muffler. There is also a wooden "cradle" that elevates the front of the muffler. The instructions state to drill a hole on the front of the muffler with a # 7 drill bit. The hole is then tap...

Tim,
There were several cans of factory gelcoat that came with my 350 delivered in April 2005. Of course the dealer used them to fix some problem areas and I've not seen them since.

(Note to self: Call dealer and tell him I want my gelcoat back!)

Tom, I have the same problem, although to a lesser degree than you. I'm not sure but suspect it may be around the inspection port cover in the front of the anchor locker. You could remove the access panel for the windlass in the front of the V berth and peek around there to see if water is getting i...

Coolant Level Question

My boat/engine are only 7 months old and I have added coolant twice to the reservoir. Each time the level was about 1/2 " below the ADD line. There is no evidence of a coolant leak around the engine and the temperature stays at 170. Do I have a problem or should I just forget it and leave it as...

Tim, I've struggled with the same problem. I've seen some people put on adhesive backed plastic pieces that they cut from weather stripping. Personally, I don't like the way they look on the boat but they do seem to work. The best product I've found to remove the streaks is Meguiars Cleaner Wax. I u...

Winterizing Hot Water Heater

I'm able to keep my boat in the water and use it year round but sometimes the temperatures fall below freezing.

Has anyone figured out a way to keep the hot water heater operational yet protect it and the hoses from freezing?

Dave, I share your frustration about the refrigeration on the C350. I took delivery of my boat in April of this year and the first thing I noticed is that the compressor would run constantly. An Adler-Barbour authorized tech looked at my unit, replaced the evaporator and tweaked the freon levels. I ...

Common Problem

I think others will back me up on this - it appears that moisture inside the instruments on the pedestal has been a frequent problem on the C350. Mine was more noticeable when I first took delivery that it has been recently. I don't think it causes any long term problems. The moisture will evaporate...

Jerry,

This format looks terrific. I know many people prefer an email format but I always found reading email replies in a message board format very difficult.
Thanks for getting this started.
