Re: Battery Charger In Line Fuse

The batteries are two year old and were fine and thanks for the suggestion. The problem was the previous owner was using 40A fuses between the charger and the batteries and the manual required 80A. Once I replaced the automotive style fuse holder he had installed with the proper holder and fuses (I ...

Re: macerator for wilcox crittenden head

I'll have to try the cleaning trick to see if I can get the impeller to last longer. There is a rebuild kit sold by Defender (Thetford Newport Maintenance Kit - Item 502942) for $139.99. It shows it's in stock.

Re: macerator for wilcox crittenden head

Welcome. I have hull #59 and I'm sure we have the same setup. There is a rebuild kit sold by Defender (Thetford Newport Maintenance Kit - Item 502942) for $139.99. The only part I've had go bad is the impeller and as far as I know the only way to get the impeller is to buy the entire rebuild kit. So...

Re: Bilge Pump Runs

I had the same issue of the bilge pump running and not pumping out the bilge. I discovered the brass check value was stuck so I replaced the check value and still had the same issue - the pump wasn't clearing the bilge. I thought the issue was the pump but it pump fine. I then checked the on-line ma...

Battery Charger In Line Fuse

This past week while sailing the lower Chesapeake I noticed both the house and start batteries were not charging while on shore power or generator but would charge while underway. The charger constantly stayed in standby mode and my first thought was the Xantrex Truecharge2 40A was shot since it's p...

Re: replace broken switch@distribution panel above captains

Agree with using a one of the unused switches on the power panel as your spare. Probably one-quarter of the switches on my panel have no output and would be considered a "spare".

Re: GFI Outlets

A few weeks ago I heard a "pop" somewhere on the boat but thought nothing of it since I didn't see smoke, fire or anything stop working. Later when I noticed no power on the port side I tracked it down to the GFI in the head just below the lip of the sink which had popped for some reason. ...

Re: Removing Water Tanks

Update - The new tank monitor is the same size and fits perfectly in the hole. The screw connectors on the monitor for the sensor wires make it a nicer unit than the old monitor. Aft water tank - plenty of room between the tank and the bulkhead to install the new tape and sensors. Waste tank - plent...

Removing Water Tanks

I am replacing the tank level monitoring system this weekend and will be removing the water tanks to install the copper strips to the side of the tanks. I figure it's going to take longer and be harder than I imagined. Just wondering if there are any words of wisdom before I start.

Re: Cockpit Cushions

We use the fitted seat cushions while at anchor. When underway we use two of the West Marine go-anywhere-seats. They fold flat so you can use them as portable cockpit seats depending on where you are seating. They also work great with the backrest is up; the base of the seat just aft of the winches ...

Re: Inverter Upgrade Question

I was thinking of the same spot as a location but I have a start battery in the space. The inverter installation instructions state you should not mount the inverter by the batteries since the batteries vent off explosive gases and could corrode the inverter. I'm not sure the true danger since you w...

Re: Inverter Upgrade Question

I'm thinking the same thing; 6ft max length is probably for 2000w continuous load. Two minutes at 1200w to get a cup of java out of the Keurig for the Admiral I just don't see building up enough heat in the wires to become an issue. And unless I can train a mouse to pull DC cable, installing the inv...

Inverter Upgrade Question

I'm looking at installing a Xantrex PROwatt SW 2000, Pure Sine Wave Inverter in the now empty TV cabinet. (The original TV was tossed for a flat screen.) The Admiral cannot deal with anything other than a Keurig. (Please, let's let's not start on coffee making. Sometimes it's just easier to agree wi...

Re: Replacement of Raymarine Rl 70c radar chartplotter with

I'm looking forward to reading how the upgrade went. I'm the third owner of hull #59 and everything onboard appears circa 2003. Next year (the Admiral and my retirement year) I'm looking at a complete upgrade from masthead to transducer before a sail to the Bahamas from the Chesapeake Bay. I also am...

Re: Engine coolant replacment

Looking at the engine, it's a bolt on the port side, a few inches aft on the block and a few inches above the engine mount. It's just looks like a bolt (which it is) on the engine. Here's a link to a M35 parts manual with a good diagram. Link with engine diagram, it's on page 3, part #11. http://www...

On my C350 the fuse is connected in-line about 6 inches from the monitor. It was inside the black plastic wire guide so just trace back from the monitor and you should find it.

Re: Engine coolant replacment

I use premixed diesel engine coolant available at most truck stops. Practical Sailor did a review of engine coolants in the October 2014 issue and gave an excellent rating to all of the heavy-duty diesel engine coolants they tested. Most big box stores do not carry the "big rig" heavy-duty...

Re: A/C winterizing

I just winterized both the a/c and the Panda generator using the Sea Flush funnel system (which I got at the Annapolis Boat Show). I'm a user of the Sea Flush - not a vendor - and it's definitely much easier than last year when did the typical; disconnect the a/c and generator inlet hose and run a s...
