Re: Engine does not start
Don’t forget there is a rotary switch below the Nav Station for the Engine DC Power. If it is on you will have the low oil buzzer after turning on the key. If no buzzer, check this rotary switch. Plus the key os not like your car. It only allows the black push start button on the far right of the in...

Agree with Bill, I just use Kleenex or even paper towel. I like the toilet paper idea.

Hub size of Michigan prop M series
Greetings, I am about to order a “Prop Protector”. Does anyone have the diameter of the forward end of the Michigan “M” series 14 x 10 3 blade prop? The prop protector needs to be 1/2” larger diameter than the prop hub. Thank you.

Re: Engine does not start
FYI only: There is an inline 15 amp glass fuze a couple of inches away from the ignition switch inside the pedestal. Mine is fine, so doing so more trouble shooting to see what is wrong. I get low oil buzzer but no igntion.

Old or new cutlass bearing?
Greetings all: About to haul my boat. It is one of the older models (2003 #78). Question: how can I tell if the older style cutlass bearing has been replaced to the new brass cutlass? Is it as simple as tapping on the cutlass protrusion. Metal sound and feel equals the cutlass bearing was replaced a...

Re: Realistic temperature for freezer/frig?
Jim: Thank you. Yes, the big variable is where the temp probes are placed. Right now the freezer probe is sitting on the outer edge of the shelf in the middle of the evaporator. My frig thermometer is hung half way up on the side opening door. After doing more data collection. I have a second fan th...

Realistic temperature for freezer/frig?
Greetings all: Doing a bunch of research right now. I found my fan was not operating. After reconnecting the wires the freezer is down to 15-18 degrees F. With Outside Air Temps 85-92F. Frig is hovering around 40. FDA says freezer should be zero or colder and frig below 40. What are the rest of you ...

Re: How to remove Marinco 12 vlt. on pedestal?
Brett: Thanks for that suggestion, I removed the instrument panel. Wires looked good. While retrieving my voltmeter, I decided to test the outside of the receptacle first, since it was easiest. Thirteen point something. So it is a good receptacle. Played around with the cigarette lighter plugs I had...

How to remove Marinco 12 vlt. on pedestal?
Greetings, I just realized the 12 volt Marinco receptacle on the pedestal is not working. After unscrewing the two screws holding on the faceplate and removing that. The receptacle does not pop out of the pedestal. There is a cryptic printing around the edge of the receptacle, “unlock point” with a ...

Re: Charles 5000 battery charger
Greetings all: I am the newest owner of “Sea Breeze” previously owned by Rick. The original Charles 5000 30 amp charger is still in the boat. Like Rick I can not find any manuals. The Charles does not seem to be able to do an “Equalization Charge”. Which is prescribed maintenance item by other manuf...

Full cleat?
I have Tropical Storm Fred bearing down on me as I write (Aug. 13, 2021). So I pulled up the post titled “Storm Preparation” to see what I have missed. You may be in the same boat if you are reading this post. Fred should be a non-event for me, but I had to prepare early just incase. In so doing I h...

Re: Lifting companionway ladder out of the way
Brett: Ingenious answer using the two winches on the cabin deck. Yes, I was concerned about the catastrophic damage from a single point failure of tying to the handrail above. I tried your idea out, and it works great. I will submit a photo below showing a single line holding the ladder up. But you ...

Lifting companionway ladder out of the way
Urban legend says this topic has been covered here in the past, but I can not find it. While motor sailing recently, strange noises came from the motor. Sounding like a fan belt issue. Two of us went below to investigate. Capt. Bill said grab the bottom of the companionway steps and pivot them up wh...

Re: AIS addition
Greetings: I just had a used AIS installed in my boat. GPS receiver is mounted on port dinghy davit with a clamp type base. Line runs through a “clam shell cover” into the interior of the boat. The two black boxes are attached to the ceiling in the aft cabin just forward of the aft bulkhead. After r...

Re: Shade Maker
I have one of these from Capt. Bill. We go ahead and re-rig it on the opposite side after the sun goes down. In preparation of the next sunrise. Our breezes are predicable, so we know where the sun will hit us in the morning. Plus I take my 5 dodger covers with me and can put in a quarter shade if n...

Re: Mast and water in bilge
Lagniappe: Don’t be confused with my mast sleeve, it is really designed to keep the sun off of the exposed sail inside the mast. I do suppose that if it was bigger and had more wrap to it, it would keep the majority of water out. I just cleaned the boat yesterday after sailing for the weekend. I did...
