Re: Edson cockpit table
That looks like a nice find on a table. How is the table attached to the binnacle? We don't have a table on our boat but thought of adding one. What hardware would you use to attach one of these if the boat didn't already have existing hardware from a previous stock table?

Re: Windlass service is easy, and I found a leak
Did you find that you needed to pull the deck plate when removing the windlass? I'm wondering if I need to get the deck plate gasket in order to pull the windlass and change the oil. Thanks.

Re: Is Mast Grounded to keel Bolts
Since it's a deck stepped mast, as far as I know, it is not grounded to anything. If you're concerned with lightning strikes, it would take a massive cable to tie it to the keel, and it's questionable whether that would really give you any protection. I'm also pretty sure your Hunter friend's boat i...

Re: Reef hook on mainsail
Reef hooks aren't necessary if the single line reef system is set up right. Don't have any pics of mine and am not near the boat, but the front reefs are set up with blocks to pull the front of the sail toward the mast as well as down to the boom. Mine does have reef hooks set up on it too, but I do...

Re: prop coupler removal
Honestly, it's just easier to cut the shaft in a couple of places to remove, especially if it's the older bronze one. Quick work with a sawsall. New shafts are not that expensive in relative boat terms. You can then have the new coupling fit and faced to the shaft at time of purchase by their machin...

Re: Single Line Reefing (no purchase and no block)
No pics. Suggest looking at your boat to see if you have the cheek blocks and mast base blocks Already installed and follow your lines as I described above. There's also a diagram in your manual but it may not tie off the lines to the boom the way I do it. This was suggested by my sailmaker and work...

Re: Single Line Reefing (no purchase and no block)
I have blocks on all 4 reefing points on the sail. They are held onto the sail with rings like in your pic. For each reefing line, I have it run back to the cockpit, then up through a mast base block to the block at the reef point on the sail, then down to and through another block on the mast at th...

No notes, but the R&D high deflection damper sold by PYI worked well for us. Have about 800 hours on the new one since I put it in.

Re: Hunting VC-17 Facts or Fiction Bottom Paint
Olivia Mae/Scott & Linda - thanks for the reply! HOW DO YOU GET AWAY WITH JUST 2 QUARTS????? PLEASE TELL ME YOUR SECRETS!!!! Here's the trick for VC17. It evaporates quickly, so if you paint with a standard tray and roller, most goes into the air. Get a 2 liter drink bottle with a pull up sippy...

Re: Hunting VC-17 Facts or Fiction Bottom Paint
Tom and Pam, Nice find. I didn't think anything could be painted over VC17 because of the teflon in it. From what I found on the petit compatibility chart, it would be the hydrocoat line rather than the HRT line that is compatible. Either way, it's nice to know there is another product I could use i...

More on the issue up in Canada and how to apply VC offshore over VC17 here: https://www.brewersmarine.com/media/Interlux_VC17m_Discontinuation.pdf FWIW, VC Offshore is is a different kind of paint than VC17. I saw a guy using it a couple of years ago when the reformulation caused a supply shortage. ...

Re: Hunting VC-17 Facts or Fiction Bottom Paint
It looks like you're up on the Great Lakes, so, IMO, you can't find a better bottom paint for up there in the fresh water. I recoat mine yearly. It only takes just a bit over 2 qts to do the 350, and it's a very easy paint to work with, though there are a couple of tricks involved as it evaporates q...

Re: Sad day with mixed emotions-sold our C350
I'm familiar with a lot of your trip as we had our boat in Erie for the last several years but springs summers on lakes Huron and Michigan. Concerning Put In Bay, if you've never been, I guess you should. Pick up a mooring, don't plan on anchoring, and the docks often are an accident waiting to happ...

Re: ENGINE NOISE-DAMPER REPLACEMENT?
Hmmm. Ours doesn't clatter or vibrate at low speed. FWIW, I used the R&D high deflection plate when I did ours. So, if everything is new, it could be I'm just less sensitive to any vibrations then you are. It also could be the prop you're running. I have a fixed 3 blade. Somee folding and feathe...

Re: connecting an inverter with 3 batteries
I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me (it's in your manual), but if I remember right, the alternator output goes to the common pin on the battery bank switch, then gets distributed to the selected bank from there. The down side of that setup is it only charges the bank that the switch is on. ...

I see you may have found what you need. One other place to look for Catalina parts is over at saiboatowners.com, the of home of some sailing forums. The owner of that site bought out all of the Catalina factory old parts inventory several years ago. If you don't find what you're looking for on their...

Re: WooHoo! Just saw my first 350 in person
As you found out, the 350 is a nice boat. Having owned ours for the last several years there's really nothing we would change or hope for on a different boat. I'm with you concerning the traditional main. We specifically looked for that when we bought ours and found it, but the majority of the 350's...

Re: Anyone With A Dutchman System ?
We have the "type A" system, where the 2 monofilament lines attach directly to the topping lift, so not the continuous line setup. I always slack the topping lift off when sailing. When I put the cover on, I move the main halyard back to the end of the boom and use that as a topping lift a...

Re: Cutlass bearing installation doubt - need advice
As mentioned above you do want some sticking out to make removal possible without having to pull the shaft. About 3/4" is enough. Interesting to hear the history of what convinced Catalina to get rid of those plastic shelled ones. Too bad it didn't happen before my hull was made. It would have ...

Re: Leaking PYI shaft waterer inlet valve
You have a kind of unusual vent hose installation on your pss seal. The purpose of the fitting on the pss seal is to purge it of air. I'm not sure if yours will do that, or just trap air. Usually it's run (on the 350's) to the fresh water pump intake, so theoretically it will draw water through the ...
