Hot Water Heater - Cold water inlet hose quick connect.

My cold water inlet to my hot water heater has a quick connect that keeps disconnecting and pumping my holding tank water into my bilge. I plan on removing the quick connect and attaching the hose directly to the hot water heater with a hose clamp. QUESTION: does the quick connect do anything else than make a connection such as being a check valve so water does not go back to the water holding tank????

I try to manage my water pressure (switch on the elec panel) the same as I do my washing machine at home: turn off the water when you are not on the boat, but now I'm going to turn it off when I sail too.

Since I just went through removing this valve I thought I would answer for completeness. The quick connect is a Whale connector. To remove push in, and use a small flat screwdriver to pull the gray plastic under the white sleeve back. This will release the quick connect. And yes there is a plastic back flow valve in there.
