Testing an avatar
Just uploaded an image to be used as my avatar. Does it work? Look to the left, near my name. There should be a picture of our boat sailing on the lovely and grand Chesapeake Bay.

Looks great, Jack!
This looks great, Jack! You have motivated me to do the same later this evening. I allowed avatars, but really didn't tell anyone about them. You're the first.

Hmmm, let me try... boy, you sure gotta make them small. Just enough room for my big head!

Shrink the file size of your avatar
Tim,
In addition to reducing the image size of your avatar, you need to reduce the pixels (dots) per inch or resolution. Check the Help pages of your image software and find out how to do that, then save the image with reduced resolution. Some programs also have a "Save for Web" option. That doesn't always reduce the resolution, however.
The resolution for the web only needs to be 72 dpi.

Tim,
I used Lview Pro to select the pixel sizing, and the save function was sufficient to deliver the appropriate sizing, but for the life of me, I can't remember if I selected more compression during the save. I tried several time over two days until it popped out.
