dome lights- how many?

Post by elk »

I want to replace the dome lights with led fixtures, since a couple of the switches are starting to get wonky. My boat is 1.5 hours away so I can't get to her easily to count them, but i believe there are 4. Can someone count the dome lights and report back here? Please.

Thanks in advance.

Ed,

Dome lights as I remember:
2 over galley
1 in aft state room at entry
2 main salon center over table
1 forward salon over head door
1 forward cabin near anchor locker

You might have a lighting fixture over the stove, below the microwave, as I do, with two 10 w bulbs.
These are replaced with side pin LED's
The Glass globe lighting fixtures I used back pin LED's 20W equivalent @3w
I found small SPST switches at Radio Shack and on the WEB for replacements.
I had good luck with WD-40 and some exercise on the switches as it seams they die from lack of use not excessive cycles.

I hope this helps.

I was able to purchase LEDs for most of the interior fixtures on the boat for about $100 including shipping.
Make sure you purchase LEDs which can take a voltage range of up to around 24V, this means the LED will have a built in power supply and will last longer than ones with just a resistor. The ones with just resistors burn out easily with a small over voltage.

What types of LEDs?

These ones I bought on ebay were quite good, bright, nice colour:
10x G4 24-5050SMD 3Watt LED Bulb Warm White AC/DC12~24V for crystal chandeliers
I could not find the flat disk type LEDs I bought, they were OK, but a bit too dim.

I replaced all of the toggle switches in mine with ones from Digikey and the bulbs with these:

Ledwholesalers Disc Type G4 Base Side Pin LED Bulb
Warm white, 3 watt

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TJY7FS

They are brighter than the halogens I replaced and produce a nice color of light (no bluish tint).

I hard wired them to the switches and supply and cut off the pins as they wouldn't fit in the existing light enclosure and plug in using the pins.

Very pleased with these LED disks.

Do you happen to have the part number and supplier for the switch?

The ones I used are C&K Components T102SHCQE toggle switches.

Digikey part number CKN10151-ND.

onlinecomponents.com, Mouser, Arrow, and others carry them as well.
