Super Fast Windlass

Post by dvolkman »

Hi All. I'm curious about the windlass speed and how everyone is using it. We've only anchored a few times and I'm not used to using the windlass yet. It seems to pull the rode and chain up very quickly.

Is there a speed adjustment?

We have two anchors setup for use depending on the conditions. The Delta plow we have swings up onto the bow roller and sets into place fine, but very fast and seems dangerous. When I brought the Danforth anchor up last weekend...I manually pulled it into the roller because I wasn't sure it would set with the plow in the way.

So...How is everyone else using his or hers?

Thanks,

the trick is to use momentary short bursts on the windlass switch as the anchor nears the anchor roller. This will allow you to slow it down and bring it in safely to stow the anchor those last few feet.
