Anchor light

Post by hperros »

My anchor light consumes 0.65 Ah. I have not been up there yet, but I think it's probably the original light, and I suspect that it has a halogen bulb. If it is halogen, I should be able to replace it easily with an LED bulb. I wonder if somebody can tell me how many watts the LED bulb should be. Also, if I have to replace the entire anchor light, what would be a good alternative?

We replaced our anchor light with an LED from https://www.doctorled.com/p21.htm
a few years ago. It draws about 0.1 amp versus about 1.0 amps from the original bulb. That's a significant difference in battery consumption when you realize the anchor light is on for 10-12 hours. You do want to be sure you select an LED with the required 2 Nm visibility and the proper end fitting for your fixture. No need to replace the entire light fixture, but you may have a couple of trips up the mast to confirm what your fixture is and the proper bulb.

I'm pretty sure this unit is what I had put on my mast (from Hella, https://www.hellamarine.com/en/products ... lamps.html). I also believe I replaced the bulbs with LED's, and the deck light is quite ample. I really like it.

Thanks for the information. I was hoping to avoid two trips up, but it looks inevitable!

We replaced the anchor light bulb on our 2003 with this one from Marine Beam last season.

Compact GE89 and GE90 Replacement for Attwood & Perko (TW-GE-15)
(Output Color: Cool White, Base Type: Single Contact)
TW-GE89-CW 1 $12.50 USD

Worked out great. I see this bulb # is not listed on their web site now. You might have to call to see what the replacement is if they don't offer it. They also have another replacement bulb to convert the fixture to a tri-color, if you have the desire. Seems pretty cool and should fit. We decided to stick with the standard all around white on ours.
