Rodkicker Gas Strut

Post by TBOT422 »

Has anyone replaced the gas strut in their Selden Rodkicker? I believe I need to replace mine as it no longer supports the boom and there is hydraulic fluid all over the top of our cabin. I was just wondering if it is difficult and what steps or precautions I need to be aware of.
Thanks

So no one has ever had to replace the gas strut in their boom vang? Lucky me. Part is supposed to arrive tomorrow, and I'll post what I learn.

I finally completed the replacement of the gas strut in the Selden Boom Vang Rodkicker. The process is pretty simple. However, I had several issues of getting the right parts, etc. Here is a video I created of the replacement process.

Gary, you are not alone now. Our gas strut must be replaced. Your video is most helpful. Any issues since you replaced yours?

Wally and Connie,

The part number for my original Aratron strut showed it to be 2500N which is equivalent to 562 lbf. I installed the stainless steel McMaster-Carr part with 550 lbf and have not had any problems with it. I suppose I should say I have not had any problems with the gas strut
