Depends upon the installer
It really depends upon the installer. Ours was not factory installed - I'm not too sure that any were. Our fluxgate compass in located in the port side cabinet in the aft cabin, inside the lower cabinet, mounted to the underside of the shelf/counter. I do know that if I accidently leave anything met...

Factory Says "Rudder Off"
Talked to the Florida factory this morning - yes, the rudder does need to be removed in order to remove/replace the shaft on our C350's. (Some models of Catalina's do not require rudder removal - for example the C34). For reference, the shaft is specified as 41.5 inches long, 1 inch diameter with a ...

Clearance for Prop / Shaft Removal
Well, we bumped a log or something pretty hard over the winter holiday and the diver says we bent the shaft. I was figuring it was going to be a messed up prop, but she says "prop's OK, you bent the shaft". Yard guy say he needs to know if the prop/shaft can be removed without dropping the...

Manual Head Pump
Hans - re: your question about using a head with a manual pump in our C350's - you were wary of using a manual pump because of the vertical lift that our plumbing/tank installation would require to move waste from the head up to the top filling tank. The renowned "Head Mistress" (Peggie Ha...

Loose Clamps?
There's a thread on the C34 forum discussing - or advising - of loose hose clamps on new boats. http://c34.org/bbs/index.php?topic=3117.0 I know that we initially had a loose clamp near the hot water heater (or the stern shower) - It wasn't a big leak, just enough to cause the pressure water to cycl...

No Manual Pump on My Boat
Geoff - Interesting. I have a rather early (2003 #68) C350 and I don't recall seeing anything in the manual, or on the boat, that indicates there might have been the possibility of a manual fresh water pump.
I'll take another look through my manual in the next couple weeks or so.

Black Box
I found what I think is the flux gate compass on my installation - mounted under the counter in the aft cabin - It's in the port side cabinet, lower portion, and up on the underside of the counter. My autohelm 5000+ was installed as part of commisioning, by a local service, and was not factory insta...

Olympic Mountains
Here's another picture from the Regatta - featuring the Olympic Mountains as a backdrop for April IV heading into a leeward mark rounding. Very Nice Puget Sound day!

Regatta Picture
Believe it or not, we do sail the boat! This is my favorite picture from the 2006 Puget Sound Catalina Regatta - held in June. We raced against a bunch of C36's and C34's, one C380 and one C320. We took 4th overall (of eight competitors) and were pretty happy about that. It was a beautiful day in Se...

Don't get the wrong idea
Jim - I hope what I wrote didn't disuade you from the birthday celebration - 7-8 adults shouldn't be a problem - and can really be a fun time.
Good Luck!

Limited only by seating
Not a legal answer, just a practical one - the capacity will only be limited by the seats comfortably available in your cockpit - and having a PFD (life jacket) available for all. I've had 9 adults aboard for an afterwork cruise - it's tight, but it works. I got roped into taking 8 children and 3 ad...

Doors Swing Out
The doors swing out - aft. There are little bumpers so that they don't bang on the cockpit sides. When underway, we leave them closed.
As noted, they can very quickly be removed and the original boards inserted and locked.

Companionway Door Pictures
Here's a couple of pictures of the companionway doors we installed on April IV. As noted above, we bought them from Cruising Concepts and are very happy. This picture shows the doors during the installation process. You can see the teak facia's that have been installed in place of the existing stain...

Autopilot Pictures
Hello R.B. - I do have a couple of pictures of the below deck autopilot installation. Not very good pictures, but pictures, none-the-less. (Sent to the C350 mail list May 12th, 2006) Dear Skip, You are doing a great job as the MAINSHEET Tech. Editor, and it's nice to see the comments of appreciation from 350 owners. The following address the prop/ cavitation issue on the 350. Would you please make this available on the web and in the M...

Raymarine (Autohelm) ST5000+
April IV has an Autohelm/Raymarine ST5000+ below deck autopilot - installed at commisioning. Love it. Interfaces with my Raymarine RC425 GPS/Chartplotter.
Not sure if any of the wheel pilots are compatible with the Edson "Diamond series" pedestal like we have on the C350.
Good Luck!

Should be obvious
Don't have a picture or diagram handy, but the vent hoses ought to be fairly obvious. If the factory installation is similar to the retrofit kit, there should be a piece of wood mounted below the companionway steps, above the hinged cover to access the engine. Behind the piece of wood should be a ve...

Above Waterline
There is (from memory) about 1 inch of visible gelcoat below the blue bootstripe and above the bottompaint. My bottom paint is at least three and maybe four inches above the waterline. You can get an idea from this picture - the bottom paint above the waterline is much darker than below. http://home...
