Re: Flushing Heat Exchanger
I plan to remove the zinc and plug the hole before starting the process. I don't need extra 'zinc' debris accumulating in the bucket. I recently had a plugged AC system as well and wound up using Barnacle Buster to flush out that system. I suspect that was mostly marine growth and not so much scale ...

Re: Flushing Heat Exchanger
I was hoping to do this in place. My plan is to disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses to the HE. Then connect an in-line pump to them with a bucket full of Barnacle Buster. The pump picks up the solution runs it into the HE and the discharge from the HE goes back into the bucket, thus recirculating ...

Flushing Heat Exchanger
Engine temperatures seem to be running a few degrees higher than normal at 2400 RPM. Nothing extreme, just below 180 degrees. Pretty normal (just over 160 degrees) at 2000 RPM. I am considering flushing the Heat Exchanger on the boat with Barnacle Buster. Has anyone done this? I am thinking about di...

Re: Cockpit Table Repair
Yes, but that's not my quandary. I know the second picture is not real clear, but my problem is that the wood core in the center table top seems to be separating from the molded top. Note the crack around the corner. The actual table top core that the hinge screws go into is loose and moving. I can'...

Re: Boat Trim
I haven't had the time to check the WOT tests provided by Brett, but I did happen to observe the 'trim' one day while sailing. The stern does not sink when under sail, so the drop is clearly caused by the angle of the prop shaft and is not due to load distribution or keel wing 'lift' or any other th...

Cockpit Table Repair
Our cockpit table is beginning to separate at the hinge. It appears the core of the table top that the hinges are screwed to is separating from the molded table top. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you repair it? I am considering drilling through the table top and installing flush mount...

Re: Engine Paint color for M35-B
Are you sure that's not just corrosion? My engine is sort of a light green
I found some high temperature engine paint at a local auto parts store that matched our engine pretty closely. Although our engine is grey/silver so a lot easier to match.
Good Luck

Boat Trim
How much does your stern drop when under power? I constantly search for ways to improve boat speed (maybe that is because I am an ex-power boat owner), but we don't ever seem to be able to achieve the speed that most people on this forum talk about whether under power or under sail. I have began to ...

We use swinging companionway doors from Zarcor. They come with 3 inserts. Translucent smoked acrylic, solid white acrylic, and screens. Easy to switch out and no more hassling with the stock boards.

Re: Low voltage at Temp Gauge
The gauge could be faulty even if it passes the Catalina continuity tests. First, you need to understand how the gauge works. Electric Temperature Gauges Basically, an electric temperature gauge is a voltmeter. The scale on the gauge face is reading temperature but the instrument itself is reading v...

Re: Raymarine ST60 and I50 Instruments
Peter, Maybe that can be done with some transducers, but I see no way this transducer can be installed from inside the boat while in the water. The transducer specified by the RayMarine manual is an M78713. To me, it appears that it must be installed from outside the boat, feeding the cable thru the...

Re: Raymarine ST60 and I50 Instruments
Ray was correct. It appears the transducer was my problem. I purchased a new transducer, plugged it in and hung it in the water at the transom. It locked in instantly to the 12 foot depth at our dock whereas the old transducer initially showed about 24 feet and would finally settle in to the 12 feet...

Re: Remote start/stop
My recollection is that you can shut off the fuel to stop the engine from below, but I am away from the boat now and cannot confirm. I believe I had a problem at one time where I did not reinstall the throttle linkage correctly and did not have enough travel on the kill switch to shut off the fuel, ...

Re: Raymarine ST60 and I50 Instruments
I've decided to buy a new transducer, plug it in to display and dangle it over the side. Slowly lower it to see if readings become correct. If so, then haul out and replace transducer. Are there any issues with submerging the transducer in salt water? It seems to be fully sealed and encapsulated.

Re: Raymarine ST60 and I50 Instruments
I am assuming that the transducer is fine as the system works perfectly in water depths greater than 6.5 from transducer to bottom and my research seems to indicate that the transducer rarely fails. The system is just erratic in shallow water (depth shown actually increases when approaching a shoal ...

Re: Raymarine ST60 and I50 Instruments
Ken, Did you resolve the problem with replacing the ST60 display with the i50? I think I am heading in that direction. Our ST60 Tridata display has began generating incorrect depths in less than 8 feet of water (6.5 feet from transducer to bottom). There seem to be some ST60 units for sale on E-Bay ...

Erratic Depth Readings
On our latest cruise, we had erratic depth readings in water depths less than 8 feet. In depths greater than 8 feet readings seemed normal, steady and accurate. Below 6 feet the gauge would generally start up with just dashes for a depth. When going from 8-9 feet to shallower depths, the gauge would...

Vertical or Horizontal Evaporator
I have seen the evaporators installed vertically or horizontally on different 350's. Ours happens to be installed horizontally. It seems to me that the vertical installation would make it easier to access the stored food since it is a top loading freezer. My question is which do you have and do you ...

Has the damper plate ever been replaced? If not you may want to read the posts in this forum regarding replacing the damper plate. I found that was the source of our low speed vibration.
