Re: Urgent Question - Boot Stripe

Norm(sail) We have painted both our C320 and C350 boot stripes ourselves. Used Interlux Brightside Polyurethane paint. About $60 for a quart. Light sanding, wipe clean with the appropriate thinner, then mask and paint with a high quality brush. Any brush marks will disappear as the paint dries. We l...

Re: length over the water?

Thanks to everyone who contributed. It's kind of what I expected that a 350 is at least 37" with the anchor on the roller. I passed this along to my friend, looks like he wont be able to get a 350/355 without getting on his club's waiting list for a bigger berth. Geoff, nice to hear from you, I...

Re: length over the water?

Thanks very much Rick, I'll pass this along. I suspect he may need to find an anchor that doesn't protrude much past the longest bow roller. I'd like to see him get a 350, I think he'll enjoy it more than the 36. He's 6'4" and either berth on a 350 should be a good fit, plus the headroom is bet...

length over the water?

A friend just sold his C34 and is looking for a C36, C350 or C355. His marina is firm on the maximum length of the boat measured as "Length over water" they will allow into his existing slip. He is limited to 36' 5". I can't get to Sand Dollar to measure her, so wondering if anybody c...

Scott:

My wife produces the drawings from my hand sketches, she a retired drafter. With no access now to the high-end CAD software, she used Microsoft Publisher to do these drawings.

Brett

Thanks for the input, I've heard/read somewhere about wiring them that way. Its on my list now.

Re: Dedicated start battery

Hello all, I have a similar setup to others, with the house bank paralleled (4 golf carts - 450aHr) and a separate "no" maintenance Group 27 starter battery. I normally stay on the house bank and use the starter battery occasionally to make sure it actually works (it always does). Since I ...

Re: Anti-siphon valve on engine

Just a heads up on the installation of these kits. Sand Dollar's kit was installed around 2004/5 by the previous owner. I've had the boat now for 4 years and never had any issues with the seal. However here is what the yard reported to me when I had them install all new raw water lines last week. Qu...

Re: Anti-siphon valve on engine

I was at the boat today scoping out a planned replacement of the raw water lines. And yes the raw water line is indeed a second valve that came in the kit. So yes TWO lines and two anti-siphon loops to take care of this issue. Hopefully we all now know where to find these anti-siphon valves and how ...

Re: Anti-siphon valve on engine

Mine is located behind the companion way stairs on the forward side of the bulkhead. It is behind a (color matched) wood panel that I believe came with the kit that Catalina supplied. As I recall anti-siphon is only on the PSS seal, lube/cooling water line. I think its a 1/2" hose. The water is...

Lost Rudder/Post Corrosion - Mainsheet Article

I was amazed by the facts presented in the recent Mainsheet article. The damage that stray currents can do is significant! I pulled out the engine instrument cluster yesterday to inspect the area around the steering chain, no apparent problems and I did put an extra zap strap around the wire harness...

Re: Charles 5000 battery charger

Hi Rick Our C350 is a 2003 and we bought it 4 years ago. I thought I would need to up-grade the Charles 5000 charger. But I've found it to be a very good charger even though its a little aged and limited to 30A. There are switches that allow you to set it up for your batteries, they are on the back ...

Re: Leaky Hot Water Tank

Bill Thanks for the background info on your setup. It gives me food for thought. Here's what I'm thinking when I compare my proposed system to yours. 1. 40 Ahrs to heat 2 gal should equate to 100 Ahrs to heat my 5 gal tank. 2. 11 min to heat 2 gal X (1200/750w) X (5/2gal) = 44 minutes to heat 5gal w...

Re: Leaky Hot Water Tank

Hi John Thanks very much for the input! All 5 of your items were very helpful. Good to know you are happy with your Isotemp. Did you need to disassemble the 11 gal tank in order to get it out through the hatch. I dont mind losing the storage shelf but I might look into some other way to mount it, ma...

Re: Leaky Hot Water Tank

Getting back onto this topic after a good summer of cruising, 11 weeks on the boat, 8 of them continuous in July and August. The water heater continued to leak through the summer but we managed it by turning off the water pump when not being used, to keep losses to a minimum. The bilge pump came on ...

Re: Cold Machine Electrical Issue

Ken: Just wondering how you made out with this? On a recent 10 day cruise our fridge stopped running, discovered the situation in the morning. I turned off the DC switch on panel and started looking for issues with the circuit board etc, but no burn marks or anything. I turned it back on a few hours...

Leaky Hot Water Tank

Has anyone had to replace the HWT? After checking all the connections on the front of the tank ( they are all dry, no leaks) I determined the leak was coming from underneath the tank itself. Its about 1/2 gal per day only if the water pressure switch is on, OR if the HWT is full of hot water, ie) pl...

Thanks Bill and Scott for the great input, I've got a clear path now to completing this little project I plan to use the outlet to charge my iPad and phones all of which back up the chart plotter using the Navionics app. The accessory outlet has a 5A in-line fuse included in the package and i expect...

installing a 12v accessory outlet at the helm

I installed an outlet at the helm but not sure where to get the 12 volts from. There is of course 12v inside the panel but it seems it's associated with the ignition system so I didn't want to pull it from there. I dont want it to interfere with anything connectioned to the lift pump, oil pressure s...
