Re: Prop and Shaft Issue

I’m not real sure how to interpret “gap around the shaft that would let water in”. Did he comment about the status of the cutlass bearing? All boats have a gap around the shaft that lets water in. What prevents that from turning into an issue is either a stuffing box or a dripless shaft seal. I don’...

Re: Adler Barbour CU-100 Replacement Coupler Fitting and Question

George, I’ve never needed to do anything with the coolant lines so I can’t help you there. To me, it seems a bit extreme to replace the compressor unit because of a loud cooling fan (not to mention expen$ive). My condenser fan died recently and I replaced it with this - https://www.digikey.com/en/pr...

Re: Realistic temperature for freezer/frig?

Jim & Dana - the problem is definitely the amount of insulation in the freezer and refrigerator compartments. Many years ago I checked the compressor run times with an hour meter and documented 80 - 85% run times here in the south in the summer. After completing the ice box upgrade my compressor...

Jim, it's been so long since I replaced mine and I don't remember how it fastened. Is there a threaded ring on the inside?? Here's what I replaced mine with - https://www.alliedelec.com/product/icc- ... /70115827/

Re: Alarm buzzer mystery

If you're standing at the helm facing forward, turn the key aftward (toward you) as far as it will go. That is the glow position for the key. There should be no buzzers at this stage. When you release the key a spring will take the it out of the glow position and into the ON position. The low oil/hi...

Re: Fridge front door seal

Jim I'm dealing with the same problem on my unit. Taking the door off to access the gasket on the hinge side is a pain. I've had problems with the gasket staying put after applying adhesive. The bend at the corners makes adhesion difficult. I'd like to try your suggestion but am afraid I would destr...

Re: Ocean Breeze Raw Water Pump

A couple of things come to mind - the strainer on your AC water pump may be clogged. If that looks normal your water pump may be failing. This happened to me several years ago. If the compressor/condenser overheats, the unit will shut down until the temp returns to normal.

Re: Engine stopped running

Jim, it sound like you have check/replaced the obvious stuff. These are low probability suggestions but have you checked the fuel tank vent for obstructions? Any idea what the fuel in the tank looks like? It might be worth removing the fuel gauge from the tank and peeking inside to see if there's a ...

Ed, I believe this is what you need. Of course shipping costs will make this part much more expensive. https://www.westerbeke.com/Product/CAP/024858
Have you tried searching Amazon or an auto parts store to see if they have something comparable?

Re: Fridge Compressor -Replacement

A quick way to bypass the thermostat is to remove the brown wire from the terminal labeled "T" and the black wire from the terminal labeled "C". Then run a short jumper wire between the "T" and "C" terminals. The unit should run if the thermostat is the proble...

Pretty slick idea on storing the spare belt. The only downside I see is the belt being subjected to the higher heat of the engine compartment.

Steve, I've got a 16,000 btu Mermaid reverse cycle system on my boat and it works quite well. Your signature doesn't indicated where you are located so that could make a bit of difference. Here in the south it gets quite steamy and my system cools the boat down fairly well. I have an vent in the aft...

Jack, do you know if the PSS shaft seal is original? If so, it’s well past replacement time. There’s a couple of posts in the Hull, Prop, Rudder section that deal with it. If you’re a paid up member of the C350 Association there a whole section of maintenance items listed in the “Members Only” secti...

Re: Genoa Furling Line Specs

The main reason I like 2 fifty foot sheets is the ability to reverse them "end for end" if wear starts to develop where repeated contact with the winch drum occurs. Regarding the furling line, the only negative to the larger diameter line is cost. I'd expect that ease of handling the large...
