Re: Heat Exchanger Securing Straps on the M35B engine.
Hi All, I was doing some of the normal maintenance on the engine, and saw that my brackets for the heat exchanger are broken as well. Here's the question. Are these two brackets welded directly to the heat exchanger tube? On one bracket, it is broken just above the bolt hole at the end of the strap....

Re: Dripless bearing squeal
Just curious if you have "burped" the seal lately. Air can be trapped in the PSS especially if the boat just came out of the water, or if a diver was under the boat, or just small debris may have build up in the area between the shaft bearing and the seal. Just pull the bellows back for a ...

Re: water tank shut off valves
I fixed ours in a somewhat disjointed way. My knob had snapped off the valve stem. I ordered a similar Quest valve from http://www.hardwareandtools.com. Search under "Quest Valve" on their site and you will see about 4 different sizes. I ordered the 5/8", but this was the wrong size! ...

Re: Engine
The best way to remove the engine's oil switch is with a special deep socket made for the purpose. NAPA has them. Be VERY carefull if you try it with channel-locks or similar. The switch itself is a special, in that it has two blades for wires that short together when oil pressure is OK. Most of the...

water tank shut off valves
Does anyone know the manufacturer of the water tank shut off valves located under the galley sink? The handle for our aft tank snapped off. It looks like the top of the valve can be unscrewed away from the valve body to allow replacement. This is for an early 350, with the oval grey valve handles. T...

Re: thru hull
The new 350's use a water scoop strainer in that area to provide positive water pressure while underway to the dripless shaft seal. They have gone away from taking the water from the engine cooling system. If this is the case, inside the boat you should see a short hose running from the nipple on th...

Re: Not all 350's are the same!
I don't have any plans to change the mast, just have to remember this if it is ever damaged and needs replacement. I haven't researched if it would let me get under certain bridges on the Atlantic ICW, but as the say, it is what it is! Yes, this was a hurricane boat, an '03, damaged in '04 reportedl...

Not all 350's are the same!
In the continuing quest to get our project boat, lucky hull #13 back in the water, we are going through the process to get new sails made. After making the measurements, we started seeing a discrepancy between our numbers and the stock sail plan numbers. It seems our 350 was ordered and built with a...

It had to be something so simple! I didn't spot that very thin ring joint in front.
Thanks!

Re: Interior lights replacement source
I was able to push the black lampholder out of the chrome mount, but from there it looks like the two black halves are glued together around the lamp reflector. I'm not sure how it can come apart without breaking it. It's made I think by Gator-Lights or something similar. Maybe they could offer some...

Interior lights replacement source
I've been having to 2nd source repair parts for our project C350. I've found a supplier (other than Catalina) for the interior ceiling lights if anyone needs replacements. http://www.sailorsams.com/mall/comet_8710.asp I'm not recommending this particular vendor or anything, just letting others know ...

Re: C350 MKII
Richard, Since you have a new Mk-II, perhaps you could answer a couple of questions please. I'm making good progress on my repair project '03 350. I had spoken once to Warren Pandy at Catalina, and he mentioned a couple of changes for the new boats. I'm thinking these changes might work for me. Firs...

Yep, being patient. But waiting weeks now for a call back is a bit excessive in my book. I feel extremely fortunate that I've never had to deal with the factory with my previous Catalina boats. Meanwhile, I've out-sourced most of what I need. Garhauer and Charleston Spar have been great help. Most o...

Thanks for the advice! I'm trying to 2nd source everything I can at this point. I'm pretty much down to making a choice on the refrigeration as to whether to put the original system back in, or replace with some new design, maybe a holding plate. Also, I guess I can duplicate their anti-siphon kit w...

trouble getting Catalina Parts
Catalina Yachts is starting to frustrate me! As some of you know, we bought hull #13 as a project boat, and knew we needed a bunch of parts to bring her back to the land...er...water of the living. I've called numerous times, and once actually got to speak with Mr. Pandy. Apparently he is the only o...
