Re: when is it time to replace rudder bearings?
Thanks, Chris. We had a meeting of the "brain trust" of the yard's service staff and the conclusion was that I did not have an issue with the rudder bearing after all so we finished the running gear work and put her back in. Appreciate your help. Steve

Re: Bilge Pump System
as you can see by this string, your issue has been common among us. Cavitation with the pump is an issue with 350's. Make sure your flapper valve works properly; in my post above, I report on where to buy new flapper valves. This winter, while the boat was on the hard, I separated the two discharges...

Re: Exhaust Hose length
I bought 13' of Shields 250 Series ShieldsFlex II with wire from Go2Marine 2 years ago. Had enough to trim the edges and maybe a few inches extra. This also covered from the motor to the muffler. Make sure you put the big turn in the hose before it exhausts out the hull. I laid it out in the sun for...

when is it time to replace rudder bearings?
re Hull 418, 2007 C350. I am seeking input on when it is time to replace the rudder bearings. I have about 1/4" side to side movement measured at the bottom of the rudder; two years ago at survey, the surveyor stated there was "some play but within acceptable limits". There is no forw...

Re: Bilge Pump System
we have hull 418, a 2007, C350. The bilge check valve is made by The Bosworth Co.....not easy for me to find out but its web site is: https://thebosworthco.com/. Look for the Sea-lect brand of foot/check valves. You can buy a replacement one OR they sell only the check valve itself...in several mate...

Re: New Installation
Brett is right on both notes. Any stink will be recirculated inside. And the unit will work harder than if recirculating treated air. And, the lazerettes are connected to the motor compartment via openings so you may experience orders from that. Catalina’s design for the return air works fine; it sh...

Re: Cruisair Model # SXR16 115V - Replacement
I have left for a week of travel returning next Monday. Will try to send them to you next week. But, I believe if the replacement unit looks similar and it’s properly rated for voltage and BTUs you should be fine. There is a lot of space in the box that holds it. Make sure you can get one where the ...

Re: Cruisair Model # SXR16 115V - Replacement
Our 2007 C350 has had its AC replaced by the PO about 3 yrs ago. I believe it was a drop in replacement due to reuse of hoses, power lines and some of the bolt holes. Its model DTU16-410A. By CruisAir which is Dometic or vs versus. The manual says CruisAir, the head unit is labeled Dometic. I can se...

Re: Charles 5000 Series to ProNautic 1240P Battery Charger Swap - Case Ground?
You are failing to connect the ultimate safety connection if you don't ground the case/chassis. ABYC A-31 requires it to be compliance now. There was none on the Charles charger probably due to its age vs. the current ABYC rules, but don't miss this chance to improve safety. This is your connection ...

Tachometer erratic
During a 3.5 hour motoring run, I witnessed the tach drop to zero for a second and then return to "normal." This happened in sequence several times and then the tach stayed "normal". We were motoring at 2300 rpm to outrun some weather. This was repeated several times over then ne...

Re: Maxwell 800 chainwheel 108 - chain type
Bob; would appreciate your process and pics of the rebuild of the windlass mechanicals. That's one the schedule for this winter. Runs ok but I know it has not been serviced and it has had water inside from the bad seal above. Thanks for posting those. Steve

Re: Maxwell 800 chainwheel 108 - chain type
I have chainwheel 108 with G4 chain. Seems to work fine for me; this is the first windlass we have had but I have had no issues with it once I put a new gasket on the outside spindle and stopped the leaking down through the spindle.

Re: Line sizes and length
yes, my vang has two. One is on the vang itself that compresses the vang itself with a 4 or 5:1 ratio. the second pulls on it and goes back to the cabin top. I have a drawing from Catalina but this system says it is too large to attach. I can send it if you send me your email. Steve
