Re: How does the C350 compare to the C34 performance
I wouldn't say that the 350 is only slightly longer at the waterline--it's over 1.5'. The 350 also has larger SA and SA/D. Interestingly, it looks like the WK 34 is under-ballasted compared to the WK350. I've been out up to 30 kts, and the boat stays doesn't get squirrelly as long as you reef. Defin...

Re: C355 Pictures
I think I'll keep my 350! I like some of the features like the bowsprit, and filter locker, but for overall design I think it's a step backward. I like my wide boat.

Re: The C355 vs the C350
"A lot of people still like the idea of the 350"? You sort of suggest that the "market" wants the 355 more than the 350. I don't understand what you mean by that. Have tastes changed or something? In my opinion, they really haven't as far as mid-sized cruisers go.

Re: The Demise of the Catalina 350
I don't get why they are doing this. I wouldn't want a 355. I've seen the specs on the 355. It's about a foot smaller in all dimensions (keeping in mind that a 350 is actually bigger than a C36). Funny though, the 355 weighs more than the 350! Weird. One thing that has always confused my about Catal...

Re: Why is my boat so slow under power?
Well, I finally got my tach checked, and apparently it was way, way off. I haven't got the final word from the mechanic, but I think they may have adjusted my throttle cable as well. When I was out this weekend, the boat went much, much faster! I was no longer getting passed by small daysailers with...

Re: backing up
I don't consider myself a master (yet), but I believe a recent article in "Sail" magazine suggested avoiding the tendency to rev the engine when reversing in efforts to get you going faster. The rational was that doing so produces a ton of propwalk, while adding very little to increasing b...

Re: Weight of boat
Makes you wonder about the accuracy of the scale on the lift. It maybe was calibrated when it left the factory 20 years ago.

Re: Oil leak from Maxwell windlass
Ken-- I think I've got this problem too. It looks like oil is dripping down from the windlass, and running down the access hatch board, and pooling a bit where the board meets the access opening. I'm finding a little oil slick on the shelf at the front of the v-berth, and a little bit of wood discol...

Re: Why is my boat so slow under power?
I have not directly checked the calibration of the tach, but I really don't think that's what the issue is. When I open up the throttle all the way, the engine tops out at 3000 rpm, right where it's supposed to. Someone suggested perhaps t of an air or exhaust problem that might be limiting my power...

Why is my boat so slow under power?
My GPS indicates that my boat goes about 4.2 knots at 2100 rpm, and barely gets 5.0 knots at 2600 rpm under favorable conditions. From what I read, I should be getting at least 1.0 to 1.5 knots faster than this. Any suggestions on what I should try? My boat has the new "M" series prop, a c...

Turning freezer up or down?
So there's the knob inside the freezer with 1-9 numbers on it that control the thermostat for the freezer. I believe higher numbers means colder. However, there's no "tick" mark as far as I can tell to know that by turning the knob I'm making it colder or warmer. Does anybody know? Is it c...

Re: Air conditioning with a Honda generator!!!
George---
How do you use your generator for battery charging? Do you use the 12-volt output of the generator, or do you hook the generator into your shorepower system and run your 120-volt battery charger? Do you use a household (3-prong) to 30 amp adapter?

Re: Re-routing Headsail Furling Line
I used the Schaefer Marine stanchion mounted blocks on mine, and furled it for the first time today. Winds were 15+ knots, conditions which certainly would make furling a chore. I'm pleased to say this was a tremendous improvement! Very easy to furl the sail; no winching, grunting, cursing, etc. req...

I did the same. $25 in parts from West Marine. Pretty easy fix. Pump works fine now.

Re: Engine compartment soundproofing
I've noticed that the sound level in the cabin is very dependent on the engine compartment cover's orientation. Try wiggling it around a bit and see if it helps. One time, I had it "just right" by luck, and the sound of the engine was greatly reduced.

Ah...so that's what the brass thing is. It doens't look like any of the pictures of check valves I found online, but that's okay. What kind should I replace it with?

Is there a check valve on the electric bilge pump?
When we got to the boat this morning, the bilge pump was running, and judging by it's temperature, I think it had been running a long time. There was more water than usual in the bilge, probably due to the heavy rains we've had lately. Though the bilge pump was running, it was not pumping any water....

Re: Install on raw water pump
Did mine today. Don't worry about what the manual says regarding alignment of the shaft. Just get the pump in, and rotate the houseing until the shaft pops in, then rotate the whole thing into the position you like, then tighten the bolts. You need a 10 mm wrench to do it, preferably the double-ende...
