Refrigeration Upgrades - questions
The refrigeration system on our boat, hull 442, has just stopped working effectively. My initial diagnosis is that the temperature control knob (rheostat) has failed. The knob is locked in place in the vicinity of its warmest setting. I’m going to try replacing the rheostat first and see if that fix...

Re: Stock Bose Speaker Replacement Options?
Wisail - thank you. Very clean install, the speakers look great. Much better than the box speakers on brackets that I was considering. These are now at the top of my list when I replace my Bose.

Re: Stock Bose Speaker Replacement Options?
Wisail - I am also very interested in the JL speakers. Can you post the model number, and also a picture of the rear of the speaker showing how you mounted it. I’ve had such bad luck with the Bose that I’m sure I will be replacing them in the not too distant future, and the JLs look like a great opt...

Re: Stock Bose Speaker Replacement Options?
I have Bose 151 Environmental speakers on my boat, two in the cockpit in Nav Pods under the seats and two in the cabin. These were not “stock” from the factory, but a common speaker and mounting option used at the time. I’ve owned my 2007 boat since new. In that time I’ve been through three pairs of...

Re: Life raft storage
Dave, I have sailed as crew aboard three different well prepared off shore boats (all Island Packets). I’ve done four trips from Chesapeake to Bermuda, and also a trip from Chesapeake to Halifax. In addition, I did a Delmarva circumnavigation on our own C350 with a life raft aboard for the off shore...

Re: Number of C350 Mark 1 and Mark
Blue Wing is C350 #442, one of the last of the MkI boats. She was ordered as dealer stock (back when they did such things), and arrived from the factory in March 2007. We viewed her when she arrived at the dealer but did not pull the trigger until the boat show in October 2007. By that time the MkII...

Re: Shower Sump Pump
The float switch for our shower sump failed earlier this summer. And of course it failed when we were on a mooring for a few days, in hot weather. I could not initially figure out how to get to the wires, so I thought that I would search this forum. Thanks to all who have posted their experiences, a...

Re: Hatch size/covers
We have a set of Sunbrella covers that match our Bimini and dodger. They were made by Keri at Yachtsman’s Canvas. Keri has the templates for the C350 hatch covers; also winch and binnacle covers. If interested in Sunbrella feel free to contact her.

Yes, Wade is the contact at Gratitude. Good luck, let me know if they can help. I understand you not wanting to go with a Yanmar, although they are great engines. Better to go back with the same block, less fabrication and chance of a poor fit or some other problem. Someone at Catalina (I think it m...

Yes, Wade is the contact at Gratitude. Good luck, let me know if they can help. I understand you not wanting to go with an Yanmar, although they are great engines. Someone at Catalina (I think it might have been Gerry Douglass) told me the reason for the Universal engine in the C350 Is that the M35B...

Re: I need a new engine!! ugh
Ed, I am also located in Rock Hall, MD. I’ve been based here for more years that I’d like to admit. I don’t know the marina you are in. However, I think you wintered at Gratitude Marina last year. Blue Wing was in the same yard. I suggest that you talk to Gratitude about the engine replace/rebuild o...

Re: C350 design changes over the years? Pick best yr for us?
We have a 2007 boat, hull #442. It was one of the last Mk I boats. We bought the boat new in the fall of 2007 after seriously considering the new 2008 Mk II version. We picked the Mk I because we simply liked the styling and interior better, and also it was less expensive due to the fact that our bo...

Working jib - 100/110%
Does anyone have a working jib for their 350? I would define working jib as between 100% and 110%. If so, I am interested in your experience sailing with that jib. We have a 135% jib on Blue Wing. I’ve never been happy with the way it sails reefed when going upwind in heavier winds. I’ve been thinki...

Re: Scanstrut radar mount on mast.
We have a Waltz self leveling radar mount on the mast of Blue Wing. It holds a Raymarine unit circa 2008. https://www.waltzmfg.com The mount fits the mast fine. The location on the mast gives good range, but perhaps at the expense of the very close range around the boat. That may be a function of th...

Re: VP-64 variprofile 3 blade prop
I installed a VariProfile 2 seasons ago. I purchased from AB Marine. They suggested, and I purchased, a 15X10. I wrote a detailed thread about the experience - I think its titled “Varipofile Prop” if you want to read. Long story short, I am very happy with it as set up and have not adjusted the pitc...

Re: Prop replacement
I switched from the 3-blade factory prop on hull #442 to a VariProfile. I can say that cavitation was not a problem with the factory 3-blade. That said, the VariProfile is a HUGE improvement in every way. Speed under power is better. Speed and performance under sail, expecially in lighter winds, is ...

Re: Problems unfurling the Main
For those who have experienced difficulty unfurling the main, please confirm which mast/furling system you have. I have the Selden mast/furler on my 2007 boat and have not had a problem. But I had a Charlston Spar mast/furler on our 2004 Catalina 310, and it was problematic. My solution on the C310 ...

Re: Damper Replacement
Sounds like the damper plate issue to me. Recommend you replace it and the PYI driplesd stuffing box bellows next time you haul. We just did both on hull 442 at 500 hours and it is a major improvement.

Re: Where do I point knob - Adler Barbour
Congratulations on your "new" C350. Our boat is hull #442, so the boats are virtually twins. Catalina made a few changes over the years, and it seems like some of the equipment is different in the early years vs. the later years (like Selden masts on newer boats etc.). We've owned our boat...

Re: ENGINE NOISE-DAMPER REPLACEMENT?
On Blue Wing, the engine noise / rattle was very severe by the end of last season. I knew some repair was needed. The engine had 503 hours. Over the winter I read all of the posts in this thread, thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences. I had the damper plate replaced with the PYI Hig...
