One way to do it is to connect the timer to the two terminals that lead to the compressor (condenser) motor, where you have both negative and the compressor run wire. I actually don't know the answer. In a general engineering norm and I was an engineer, 0.026 or something less than 1/32" play on a shaft this big in a nylon bushing is not excessive at all, especially it's submerged in water (good lubricant) and very slow moving surfaces. I will be very happy ...

I am new to 350 and have no experience on the boat. In general,  however, if you hear no clicking noise, I would test the engine starter solenoid first, that's mounted on the starter motor itself. It has 3 terminals: one heavy terminal that's connected to a battery,  similarly heavy one to the start...
