Re: Pedestal Guard Size

I just installed a snap lock rack on my mounting for the nav pod and had ordered for the 1 1/8 inch size tubing. Hull #71, 2003. Fits right.

Re: Anchor Locker Cleat Question

On Mintaka 2003 #71, the locker cleat is on the bulkhead wall to the port of the capstan, seems larger than one in your pic. Same as bow cleats. I keep chain secured with a snubber to the center of the cleat, then chain wrapped on cleat. When deployed I use a bridle to both bow cleats with a sliding...

Re: Blue And Red Water Line Size 2005

After many back and forth to supply stores, I settled on pex “A”. 1/2”. Heat with a hair dryer and barbed adapters slide right in. Firm up enough when cool that will have to reheat or split with a razor knife to get off.

Re: SOSpenders-Inflatable PFD's

West Marine, like a lot of retailers, re-brand items they buy from major manufacturers. Recharge kits are available by manufacturer based on auto vs manual and size of Co2 charge. Got my recharge kit for a west marine vest at defender marine.

Re: Genoa Halyard

I tied a clove hitch around the larger line about 6” up then a few half hitches then wrapped down to the end with tape to help taper it.

Re: Genoa Halyard

Don’t have to cut the end of existing halyard. Before you pull it out attach a messenger line to it of sufficient length, pulling the messenger line up the mast as you remove the old line.Attach the new line cockpit end to the messenger line and pull the new line thru the mast. For my messenger line...

Re: Cat 350 Info and Wing Keel Dimensions

My impression is the 350 does best in over 10 knot of wind. It is beamy,so you feel the heel more. The rail is higher above the water, so passengers, especially those in the stern perch seats feel excentuated movement due to a pendulum effect. If you watch the inclinometer, it's not as much as it fe...

Found some more info on site search, got the basic idea. Looks like a session with PB blaster on each visit over the winter!

Re: Fix for PSS Dripless Shaft Seal Leak

While winterizing this year noticed that the bellows on my 2003 hull #71 Mintaka appeared to have cracks in the rubber, not leaking best I can tell. I winter in the water, plan on a short haul in June for paint and maintenance. Question is how to change bellows? Have to drop the shaft? Can I slide co...

Re: CAPACITY: Engine Closed Cooling System

To the best of my recall I used one gallon of the Napa diesel truck antifreeze cut 50/50. I have 2 gallons of stuff labeled “waste antifreeze from Boat” in the garage at home. Do your self a favor and replace the line from the overflow to the coolest resivour while in there.

Re: Problems unfurling the Main

Thinking this over, as I have had this problem and replaced the sail with some improvement, but not completely solved, would it pull out easier if boom is Port of center? This way sail cloth is not turning a corner against the edge of the mast opening as it unrolls? I'll try that next time to see if...

Re: Preventer?

I rigged a preventer with a line from starboard midship cleat to a climbing figure 8 attached to the underside of the mast with a soft shackle and a carabiner back to port midship cleat mounted turning block and ended at stern cleat. Might be the line I used, but couldn't get it tight enough to prev...

Re: Silencing in-mast foil

When I bought my boat it came with a "sacrificial" sail, a smaller sail which was used to wrap around the mainsail pindle when the main was off. Fills that space so does not clang.

Not while on auto pilot. Have wheel balanced going straight, hands off wheel. Calm seas no wind.

Turning circles CCW when I let go of wheel

Finally got out sailing, no wind. Well we motored some. Go forward and within half a minute doing circles counter clock wise. Starts with a little creep of the helm and propagated quickly to hard to port. Hasn't happens before. Engine at a bit above idle, 1000 rpm. No swell to kick it over. Any idea...

Re: Sherwood water pump rebuild

Re-installed the pump today, the quickest boat chore ever completed. Sprayed a shot of silicone on the outlets prior to pushing the hoses on and they slid on very easy. A word of caution, when I took the pump off did notice a trickle of water coming from the hose I removed. Was able to elevate the h...

Re: AC water pump not priming

Went to the boat to get things going for the season. First wanted to get the heat going to dehumidify the boat from the spring rain. I left the outflow of the raw water pump unattached and cracked the seacock. Flowed water thru the pump passively (it is mounted at or below the waterline) until no mo...

Re: Sherwood water pump rebuild

Found mine leaking while winterizing this year. After reading all the posts and looking at my schedule and the outside temp, I elected to call Depco pump and send it out to them in Fla. Short while later got a call from them with an assessment and gave a go ahead for a rebuild. Total cost for me $22...

Re: AC water pump not priming

So how do I reliably get the pump to pick up prime? opened the line from the seacock to do winterizing and pump will not prime to pull up antifreeze, even with a 3 ft line with the funnel filled with antifreeze attached to raw water filter to get some head pressure the pump. The pump should be activ...

Re: Blue Boot Stripe

Last summer had the boat out for bottom paint and tried several methods to clean up the oxidation on the boot stripe. Seemed to me that the stripe was a applied vinyl decal. Boat is 2003 hull #71. Rubbing compound did nothing to improve the appearance. Ran out of days, and it went back into the wate...
