Ed,
Sorry, but what damage reverse polarity could have done is "past my pay grade".
Probably need a complete inspection of both 120 VAC and 12 VDC given both have recent/current issues.
I would say the same if the boat had experienced an electrical lightening strike.

Re: Not Seeing a Charge
Ed, that is a real puzzler. Please verify that you are not on shore power or have a generator running (i.e. the converter or inverter/charger as a second source of charging). Two simultaneous charging sources can give very confusing results. If the battery bank is in good condition, at rest (no char...

Re: Not Seeing a Charge
Need help! I have a 2005, 350 Hull #333 I am not seeing volts while the engine is running (at 1500-2000 rpm) at the helm. I am showing batteries (new in 2022) fully charged but when the engine is running I am showing a negative on my battery terminals. Just had the alternator tested and it is showi...

Re: Fresh Water (Coolant) Impeller?
ps, since you live kinda close to me, do you have a recommendation on a marina that will work on the boat? My Cortez one changed ownership and don't like them. I did go to Port Charlotte (can't remember the name) and hauled it out. thanks Sorry, do all my own work, so don't know what marinas do goo...

And, when you refill with new coolant/distilled water, be sure to bleed the air from the fitting on the water heater (highest point in the closed cooling system).
Yes, lots of fun getting down in there!

Re: Fresh Water (Coolant) Impeller?
Since a tractor uses a radiator as the heat exchanger, is the raw water pump not part of the engine accessories? I would think that the fresh water pump (the one to circulate the antifreeze) would do the trick alone, since the fan blowing over the radiator core is the "raw water pump". pp...

Re: Circuit Breakers
Sigh... Both my steaming and deck lights are out. I went up and no voltage. Next I check across the circuit breakers. In general when a breaker is off, the delta V is 12-13 volts. As soon as it is switched on, the voltage drops to zero. (seems reasonable since there is no "shut door" now ...

What brand mast do you have?
I would contact them for that information, OR give Warren Pandy at Catalina a call.

Re: ENGINE NOISE-DAMPER REPLACEMENT?
I am looking at purchasing a boat that has the vibration issue at low rpms. Goes away at about 1000rpm. The damper plate was replaced less than a year ago with one of the newer style units, but the problem persists. I'm guessing that motor mount replacement is next. How hard are those to replace? A...

Re: Ablative v. Hard paint bottom
Dave,
No one best paint.
Are you in:
Fresh water/salt water?
Warm water/cold water?
What area(s) do you sail?
The best paint for Lake Michigan will likely NOT be the best point for south Florida.

Re: connecting an inverter with 3 batteries
When wired this way, the electrons flow through each battery (as they should).
If you connect positive and negative to "other than end batteries", those not in the loop will neither get a charge as quickly nor provide as many amps on heavy draws.

Re: connecting an inverter with 3 batteries
To balance the load and/or charging, with two 12 VDC batteries in parallel, connect the positive to one battery and the negative to the OTHER BATTERY.
And, if indeed all three are on the same battery bank: positive to battery #1 and negative to battery #3.

Re: WooHoo! Just saw my first 350 in person
What I discovered this weekend was that I really want a traditional main but not at the expense of boat condition. Ya, a mixed bag on that one. Our 350 is the first sailboat we have had with furling main. All 8 of our sailboats previous to the 350 over the last 50 years had traditional mains. Like ...

Re: New Installation
I spoke to the tech at the Velair manufacturing plant and he assures me that it is fine to pull air from the lazarette side as long as the opening is as large as the intake on the unit. So, I'll just need to cut a hole to accept a grill. That is OK as long as your lazarette is as "sweet smelli...

Re: Leaking PYI shaft waterer inlet valve
I don't see a major issue in replacing the broken adapter with the boat in the water. Close its ball valve. Have a "plug" for the hose handy. Remove the hose from the adapter and plug. Replace the adapter and reattach hose-- cut enough the end of the hose so the adapter attaches to a "...

Re: 350 wing keel weight
Joe, Very likely you are underpropped. You are well over a knot slower than you should be. Pretty easy to tell. With engine warmed up, while moving (need to be moving so cavitation at WOT doesn't mislead you) go to WOT (Wide Open Throttle). If engine quickly goes to governed redline, you are under p...

Re: Fresh Water (Coolant) Impeller?
No need to "inspect" the engine coolant pump (driven by the belt). Yes, the raw water pump impeller does need inspection/replacement every couple of years unless high engine usage suggests more often. Do make sure the engine coolant pump is not leaking-- no different than on any vehicle. A...
