Re: Looking for charts

Welcome to the C350 family. Do you need paper or electronic charts (Raster/vector)? The electronic charts are free for down load and I think will run with free "Open CPN" on a PC, apple or android device. You can download copies of the paper charts and print them out for your trip. Check o...

Re: Upgrade to High output alternator

John, I had to make an upper belt tension arm for my alternator to use my upgraded belt and new alternator. I have my first spare prototype in stainless steel, if you want to try it and see if it solves your problem. Send me an e-mail weiss@rowan.edu. I have a pix of the completed installation I wil...

Re: Alternator Questions

Bill, Using a standard alternator and an internal regulator, your calculations assume the output of the alternator is linear over time, I don't believe it is. For this and other reasons the recharge time will be longer. In MHO your best and shortest recharge times can be achieved with an external mu...

Re: Upgrade to High output alternator

John J., I used an older style three wire (for external regulator) GM 120 amp alternator with an ARS-4 smart 3 stage regulator. You can find these alternators on e-bay for under $ 100.00. I used the original "v"belt for the first couple of years and then switched to a serpentine belt (conv...

Dave and all others,
I don't know the dimensions for the furling line but have it on my todo list. I will follow this thread for the answer.

Re: Reposting a shaft question

Bill, The shaft is about 40" long and as a first class lever with the CB as the fulcrum, you would have lots of movement at the coupling end with little motion at the CB. As I understand it: the water cooling or injection of the shaft seal was addressed by Catalina, an upgrade kit was sent to t...

Re: Engine overheating

Russ, I assume you checked and replaced the sea water impeller in the raw water pump. The other suggestion would be to check that you have bled the hot water loop to the hot water heater. The bleed cock is located on the hose on the bottom of the heater. Small amount of air in the line might cause t...

Re: Raymarine Autopilot

Dave, Please be more specific about the "junction box" Is it for the autopilot flux gate compass? Mine is wired directly into the instrument head with no junction box for wire splices. I have traced it through the steering pedestal directly to the flux gate head. i don't know of any other ...

Re: Raymarine Autopilot

Dave and all who seek the holy flux-gate grail , Mine is located on the aft bulkhead in the port locker under the the counter top in the aft cabin. I found it when i stored a vacuum cleaner in that locker and the auto pilot stopped working and gave lots of errors. After removing the vacuum and other...

Re: DC wiring - starter to alternator

What I did for this issue is summarized below: I installed a heavy short direct alternator to starter wire to reduce the voltage drop of the charging circuit. A loss of one ore two tenths volt will change the max full charge state of the batteries. Using the existing thick heavy gauge wire from the ...

Re: ENGINE NOISE-DAMPER REPLACEMENT?

the last post above is a repeat of an old post. I tested all three damper plates (sachs, PYI standard and PYI High deflection) to rid the transmission of the dreaded "rattle'. The results were the High Deflection damper was the cure, hands down. The Sachs made some improvement over the OEM plat...

Re: How decrease H20 heater temperature -hot H20 hose balloo

Just got back from the boat and tried some PEX tubing as a replacement. This did not work!!!
I still have not found a two ply reinforced tubing replacement (red and blue). Has anyone found an economical replacement?

Re: How decrease H20 heater temperature -hot H20 hose balloo

Teri, The mixing valve you might consider is in the WHALE web catalog "http://www.whalepumps.com/marine/product-accessories.aspx?Category_ID=10001&ProductType=10357 " The instructions for installation and operation are also discussed in a PDF file you can down load. This might solve yo...

Re: How decrease H20 heater temperature -hot H20 hose balloo

Teri, Great hose but a bit pricey! The hose we have as OEM seems to be semi rigid. The PEX is stiffer and not a laminate (2 ply). I am thinking that the PEX would be an economical replacement. I wonder if the hose in our boats are like some of the fittings (European, Italy) in origin. I will keep lo...

Re: How decrease H20 heater temperature -hot H20 hose balloo

The water heater has a fixed set point when heated by electric power and will go up to about 160F when engine heated. You might want to add a tempering valve (Thermostatic Mixing Valves) see the url: http://www.watts.com/pages/learnAbout/temperingValves.asp?catId=64 to the output of the heater to li...

Re: Folding Prop - Gori 3 Blade

Wally and Connie, IMHO I went with the KIWI feathering prop. It allowed me to "fine tune" the pitch to get WOT max rpm of 3050. They have a new blade design and I upgraded. This gave me about .25-.50 knot improvement in speed. A simple change out of the blades. This can be done in the wate...

Re: Bulb - LPG Solenoid

You might want to make sure you have a current limiting resistor in series with the Led replacement. Most generic replacement LED's do not have one of these installed. If the Led is marked 12volt input then you are good to go. I think a 1000 ohm 1/4 watt resistor (Brown Black Red color bands) should...

Re: AC water pump not priming

I added a water filter inline with the input of the pump. My boat did not come with one. I found it best to bleed the pump at the outlet of the pump to remove all air from the water line. If air gets into the system it could come from a small leak on the suction side of the pump or the pump seal. I ...

Re: Nuts Missing on Mainsheet Winch

I asked the dealer when I got my boat about the same thing. He contacted Catalina and they said there is a backing plate that is tapped for the mounting of the winch.
I don' know the dimensions of the plate or the exact location, but it would be nice to find out. '
