Re: Corroded drive pulley problem?

Many thanks to those who responded, and spot on, I was jumping the gun on the cause. In fact the inner bolt on the Balmar adapter was loose and the alternator wasn't locked tight like I thought it was. While tightening it I also took the opportunity to run emery radially over the alternator pulley f...

Corroded drive pulley problem?

 Hi all, I am seeking to find out if anyone has had experience of their drive belt being ground into fine rubber powder and why. My yacht (Avalon, ex Kuchina) has a Balmar 100A alternator and runs the normal M35 3/8" belt and has done hundreds of hours with no problem. Recently two thing...

Re: ENGINE NOISE-DAMPER REPLACEMENT?

Hi Jerry,
If you are able to send detailed description of what you needed to do to replace the damper plate would be very grateful, mine has done 1200 hours and rattles a lot at idle, but hasn't started to disintegrate yet (I don't think anyway).

Re: ENGINE NOISE-DAMPER REPLACEMENT?

I have exactly the same problem, loud rattle at idle up to 1400 rpm then smooth, have about 1100 hrs on engine but this started at around 700 and is getting slightly worse. My current solution is not to run the motor below 1400 rpm but that is a nuisance when trying to idle up to a jetty, but not in...

Re: Engine falters

Closure to closure. Just wanted to emphasise to anyone reading this who has, or is about to, upgrade alternator to a Balmar, exactly as stated above the spacing on the Balmar adaptor is wrong and it has to be shimmed. Mine failed in exactly the same way and it cost me hundreds of dollars to get a re...

Re: Website to purchase Catalina parts and accessories pleas

Hi Peter, Where are you based? I keep my C350 on the Gippsland Lakes. I recently purchased the rail cushions for the 350 from Catalina Yachts Australia, Kerrin was able to get them made at the factory and they have Catalina badge plus boat name and look great. Re pushpit seat cushions, you can get a...

Re: Scratch on table top

Hi Geoff, Two thoughts. 1) We have put heavy clear vinyl on both tables - cut exactly to the profile, some people might find vinyl tacky but I think it looks fine and takes away all worry about future scratches. It "sticks" to the varnish so there is no worry about it slipping and it has a...

Re: Laz mod

Hi, thanks very much for this info. Can you please note the extended and fully retracted lengths of the gas struts you used. I have wanted to do this for ages but couldn't work out what length struts to use and where.

Many thanks

Re: Emergency rudder opening full of water

Hi All, Without claiming any expertise, seems to me that water could only come from above through the threads of the metal cover. Too far above water level for it to come upwards. All components are designed to be around water so just fact of water in there shouldn't necessarily be of concern. Last ...
