There are rubber o-ring gaskets on each side of the heat exchanger. Time to replace them!
Also, a good opportunity to clear out the exchanger ports.

Re: Headliner discoloration & mildew
I had success with a small steam cleaner (McCulloch). The stains wiped clean quickly on both the headliner and the baseboards under the cabinets and seats. It also cleaned up yellowing on the walls in the head. I was also able to clean up the port shades. Pass the steam over the area and follow with...

Re: Rigid Boom Vang Replacement Needed
http://garhauermarine.com/ They made the original vang and much of the hardware on our boats. Mine bent also a number of years ago. I replaced it with a newer model. Call them and tell them what happened...maybe they will do something. The owner has Hull #1 of our 350 so they know exactly what you n...

Re: Problems unfurling the Main
I have had the same problem for several years...Hull 232 2004. I gave up trying to figure it out so every time I wanted to bring out the main I would pop the clutches, go forward and pull her out by hand. She comes out easily that way. She furls back fine. Never understood why I had this problem. A ...

Re: Engine overheating
Makes no sense that when you rev down the temp drops. She's either overheating or not. I had an erratic temp reading...made me turn back a few times. No steam coming out of the exhaust and plenty of happy badooshing. The gauge would ramp up and peg over sometimes. Had an IR temperature gun on board....

Re: overheating at idle after fresh water pump install
I agree with Ken's suggestion. I had a bad gauge. High temp reading, sometimes pegging...but no steam coming out of the port. Had an infra-red gun on board...engine temp 170ish. Very unnerving problem, but it could be the gauge and not the engine. Had to replace the temp gauge...not cheap. Good luck.

Re: Prop Zinc Help Request
Just looked at the picture... Cut the zinc back so you can get at the castle nut. Pull the cotter pin, block the prop and put a wrench on the castle nut and back it off...lefty loosey. Sounds barbaric, but it's fine. 3 years with a zinc? ...amazing. We are in Great Kills Harbor, Staten Island NY -g

Re: Prop Zinc Help Request
The zinc prop part is CAMP P-5. It is held on by a castle nut. Replacements (the castle nut) should only be bought from catalina direct. It's worth the hassle. The zinc is available online ...try Defender.com. My local marina orders it for me..it's easier. It's not in the general catalogues. Hope th...

Re: prop zinc screw size
The prop zinc is a CAMP P-5 on my boat....Hull 232 2004. I always have to order this special. It is held on by a 3/4" castle nut that is made of brass specifically for Catalina. I just bought a couple of replacements (after 12 years on the first one) from Catalinadirect. Prop Shaft Castle Nut 3...

Re: Fresh water in bilge from water heater cold water inlet
It's not likely that the hose has burst...usually seems to happen at the fittings.
Could the leak be coming from the stern shower?
I had a similar problem...incomplete freeze protection. My bad.
Just a thought.
good luck,
george

Post Storm Damage Checklist
Sandy did a number on many boats in our area..North East. The obvious damage is...well obvious, but each time I go back to the boat I see other stuff. Or I walk away saying "well this happened" but later wonder if "that" happened too? After returning and looking more closely...yu...

Re: Engine dies - after hard sailing, not during
I had a similar problem two years ago...engine starts immediately then cuts off in 11 sec. Restart attempts fail...let her rest...she's back and stays running. There was a tiny break in the fuel line...took me some time to find it. Need a good flashlight and patience. Flex the line and you might see...

Re: Target Speeds/Polar Diagram
I tried to get polar diagrams a few years ago without any luck. But then I would have to learn how to understand it. I was reading through your "racing" thread. You are right, our 350 is a fat bottomed girl. She drifts in winds <5 and loves anything from 15-25 or so. She also cuts through ...

Overheating or "pseudo" overheating.
My temp guage climbs to 180, the snaps back and forth between 180 and 240 a few times, then settles around 240. The guage is not "pegged" at the top. There is no white smoke nor does the alarm sound...plenty of water badushing out the port. Yes the strainer has been cleared, there is flow,...

Re: HELP!! In mast furling clunks
Don't know if this is your problem, but I had a problem with hoisting the Main....there are three hex set screws at the bottom of the furler...on the larger part of the thingy (sorry) that has the shackle which slides up the mast when you hike the main. A "tell" is if you see scratches on ...

Re: Air conditioning with a Honda generator!!!
I bought the battery charging adapter that has the alligator clips...never used it. I have the adapter 3-prong/shore power ...plug the shore power cable into it. I was appalled at the cost, but I'm glad I got it. The batteries are charged by plugging this into the 120V charger. I actually prefer thi...

Re: Air conditioning with a Honda generator!!!
Hi Rich,
I was following this thread. Don't have A/C yet but have been using the Honda for a few years.
Why dump it?
It's great for battery charge, hot water...even hair dryer for the Admiral.
We're on a mooring as you can see.
...just a thought
Regards,
George ...a different george
