Re: Charles 5000 battery charger

Ken, I agree with your advice, as far as it goes. But as a retired battery engineer, I replaced the Charles charger with one that has EC capability because "mistakes were made" and sometimes the battery was discharged WELL BELOW 50%. In the end I would run an EC about once a year, and was ...

Re: Lewmar Opening Portlight Seal

Hi Kirk, I replaced the lens on the forward hatch in 2013, that is, I sent it out to Select Plastics ( https://selectplastics.com/mrine-hatch-repair/ ) to be replaced. The forward hatch is indeed trapezoidal. I sent the original hatch cover with crazed lens to Select Plastics, and after 3 weeks rece...

Re: C350 design changes over the years? Pick best yr for us?

First production year was 2003. MkII came out in 2008, I believe. Mk II eliminated access to aft storage through the stern. :-( I have always thought the first 2003-2007 were the best. A few extra interior amenities, too, like a mahogany cabinet above the nav table that was eliminated in the MkII. H...

Re: Raymarine ST60 and I50 Instruments

You don’t need to haul the boat to replace the speed or depth transducer. They are designed to be able to replace in the water. I have done this many times. You simply remove the floor cover in the v-berth cabin, be sure you have the new transducer readily available, unscrew the collar to remove the...

Ken, I have an original pc circuit that appears to be in good shape. I could let you have it for the cost of postage from Jacksonville, FL. I no longer have my C350, "Kite".

I have had my Air X Marine serviced by E-Marine Services. (954) 581-2505.

Hope this helps.

Re: Manual Marine head ?

I replaced my electric head in 2006 with a manual head. It is a straight 1 for 1 replacement with no complications. I originally got a Thetford manual head, but the flushing handle was poorly designed and broke easily. In 2014 I got a Raritan Ph. II. and love it. I sold Kite in Nov. 2018, and the he...

Re: Replenishing refrigerant

Richard, there is no easy access to the charging valves. You must remove the white a/c enclosure inside the lazarette. There are many (15-20?) flat head wood screws, some nearly inaccessible that hold this white composition board enclosure together, but with patience and a few choice words, you can ...

Russ, I didn't see any mention of your thermostat. You might want to check/replace that item before doing any major surgery.

Re: 6V Golf Cart Battery Upgrade

You may have just enough space for Trojan T-145 golf cart batteries, or equivalent. 1/8" to spare in the length. Here is a photo of my installation in my C-350.

Re: 6V Golf Cart Battery Upgrade

In the C-350 battery space, it is not perfectly rectangular. You can fit a cube that is 22"L x 18.5"W x 12"D inside the battery space, but there is a half-inch lip all around the top, so you need to consider that in your planning. If you will be pitting in 4 6v batteries, you can slid...

I believe that the port side GFI outlet is in the head. It is below the sink, close to the compression post.

Re: What Flavor do you like?

I replaced my electric head with a manual head at least 5 years ago. Would not go back to electric. I have PhII from Raritan and it is easy to operate and nearly foolproof. Small child would probably be unable to turn the selector knob that selects inlet water or evacuate. No problems with "non...

Re: low tide

If the there is only mud at low tide, then there is only shallow water at high tide. At Cedar Key the tidal difference is only about 3'-4' - not enough to float a C-350. So you would be in the mud permanently. Bad idea! :(

Re: Sherwood water pump rebuild

Thanks, Bill. This is very helpful info. I considered the Oberdorfer option, but the pump body does not appear to have weep holes like the Sherwood and I thought that if/when the shaft develops a leak, it will end up in the engine. The weep holes are there to avoid that possibility in Sherwood desig...

Re: Sherwood water pump rebuild

Bill, I have been toying with the idea of rebuilding my old pump, but do not have information on what is required. Is there a rebuild kit available, or did you have to order all the parts individually? If a rebuild kit is available, did you find it to be adequate? Any info you can supply will be app...

Re: Outhaul line length

To Bob on Second Wind: I don't know why your outhaul line is getting shorter. It never happened to mine in 10 years, but I keep my mast rigged year-round (FL). What you can do about it is replace the line with a new one - 48 ft is the original length of the old one. I recently replaced this line due...

Re: Main Sail Furler

Tom, I recently took my mainsail off for repairs, and the marina dockmaster called me about the constant noise of the furler banging in the mast. I found an easy solution. There is a puck that slides up the furler, to which you fasten the head of the sail and the halyard. I tied a 50' line to the bo...

Re: Mainsail Removal

I imagine you are already aware of this, but it has caught me a few times, so here goes: there is a line clutch on the starboard side of the mast at about shoulder height, that the halyard passes through after exiting the mast. In the past I have found that this clutch can be sticky; even though it ...
