Re: LED anchor light
I tried replacing the original bulb with a LED several times with the same results. At first it was fine and then over time it would get increasingly dim. I finally gave up and replaced the whole anchor light assembly with a LED unit. No problems.

Re: Flexofold Oddesy And Results
You got to love the professional. Their main talent is running up the bill. You do not have to drop the rudder to change the drive shaft. Once you cut the shaft out in 3 sections you can take the cutlass bearing out. Now there is enough play to slide the new shaft in past the rudder and then install...

Re: Replacing the Rub Rail Aluminum Extrusion
I think you will find you have to remove the galley cabinets, at least that's what they had to do in mine when they went back to install the rub rail thru bolts which were never installed in the holes which caused much leakage. The AC duct is a real PITA in places.

Re: Total Loaded Boat Weight?
BTW, just had the boat pulled at a completely different marina in Florida, brand new lift. Still 22k lbs.

I believe I have the 1.95:1 hence the 15/10 prop size.

Rudder Shaft Bearing SAR, Really?
This one is great. Pulled the boat to replace a thru hull, sand and touch up bottom paint. Upon inspection of the rudder, it was discovered that it was flopping all over the place. Order new rudder bearing from Catalina direct to the tune of $780 which included 2 day shipping. Upon dropping the rudd...

Re: How load test 6V Golf Cart Batteries When Out Of Boat
First and easiest test. How old are the batteries. If they are in the 4-year range (4.5 if you pull for the winter, 3.75 if you are in Florida) yes, they are going bad. You can just about mark it on your calendar.
Consider reading the Lithium battery thread.

Re: Prop and Shaft Issue
If the shaft isn't loose when you move it from side to side, then the cutlass should be ok. The fact is that the engine is pumping water into the dripless which then goes out the cutlass.

Re: folding prop
I love my Flexafold, no Maintenace, no greasing, no cavitation. Add a line cutter, no crab pots.

Re: Flexofold sizing
The transmission gearing is what is driving the difference. Your prop is turning slower than the 1.95:1 gear ratio so to adjust the pitch and size is increased. During the 350 run Catalina evidently used a couple of different engines and different transmissions. Flexafold seemed to have it down pret...

Re: Total Loaded Boat Weight?
Hello Rich I am most likely the person who posted the 22K weight. That came from the lift scale when the fully loaded boat was pulled. I have fought with a cavitation issue from day one, full empty didn't seem to matter much. I got rid of the sail prop and bought the big 3 blade prop they recommende...

Re: Flexofold Oddesy And Results
Sorry, this may be a bit like closing the gate after the horse is out but if you are replacing the shaft you don't need to drop the rudder. You cut the old shaft out in sections. You remove the cutlass bearing, cutting it out if necessary. Install the new shaft which will fit just past the rudder du...

Re: Lithium Batteries
MADE THE SWITCH. Installed a single 200ah lithium house with a sealed flood starter bat connected via a DC to DC charger to the lithium. The DC-DC is a 40amp but can be set (which it is) to send 20 amp to the lithium. I can flip a switch and send 40 amp to the lithium if needed but I figured why str...

It finally works
It only took fighting with the refrigerator for 20 years but it would appear I have won and can die happy. Freezer 22-27 degrees, refer 33-37degrees, no frost build up on plates, cycles on and off. The secret part to the equation, lithium. Switch the batteries to lithium and tada the unit is a much ...

Alternator
Does anyone know if the stock alternator has a regulator has a Temp sensor which adjusts amperage to control temperature (overheat).

Lithium Batteries
Thinking about switching to lithium batteries given their price reduction vs the price increase of the T-105's. My question involves the alternator. Is the standard alternator set up properly protected it from over voltage/overheating and damaging itself given lithium lower resistance or is it neces...

Re: Time for a Barrier Coat?
If your paint is in good condition and working, WHY? I would not do a peel or blast unless necessary. That being said it became necessary in 2015 to remove to many layers of paint from our 2003 boat, chipping, my fault. Before we moved to Florida we had the boat peeled and then we applied 5 coats of...

Re: Synthetic motor oil
Without upgrading the oil filter via an additional external oil filter system I doubt there is much of a reason to switch. Even thought the oil will/ would hold up it has the problem of filtering out the particulate load which in turn defeats the reason to go to Synthetic. You would be asking the oi...
